Corporate Compliance Officer
Salary: $52,000 per year
Location: Ottawa, ON
Type: F/T, permanent, on-site
Equipment Provided: Phone, Laptop
About Us:
Wheels for the Wise Inc. is a rapidly growing, mental health-oriented mobility service specializing in serving veterans and individuals requiring safe, qualified access to medical appointments. We are scaling rapidly across Canada and are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
The Role:
As a small, passionate team, our leaders stay deeply connected to our mission. Working on-site at our Ottawa office, you will collaborate directly with our executive leadership, our internal Onboarding and Compliance Co-ordinator, and our external legal counsel to manage our corporate compliance portfolio.
This role is ideal for a new law graduate, legal assistant, or paralegal looking to leverage their analytical and legal acumen. Your primary focus will be managing existing renewals and registrations at all government levels, monitoring insurance requirements, and conducting investigative research into new markets. Ultimately, you will help us architect and document a scalable compliance model designed to streamline our national growth.
What You’ll Do:
- Portfolio & Renewal Management: Review, track, and manage all existing renewals, corporate registrations, and insurance requirements across municipal, provincial, and federal levels.
- Growth & Expansion Research: Conduct investigative research into compliance, licensing, and regulatory frameworks for new geographic markets to design a scalable compliance model.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Monitor, interpret, and keep abreast of shifting regulatory requirements, legislation, and industry trends applicable to healthcare mobility operations.
- Policy Development: Develop and implement robust internal policies and procedures to ensure business practices remain in full compliance with changing laws.
- Auditing & Risk Assessment: Conduct regular internal compliance audits and comprehensive risk assessments to track and document exactly how requirements are being met.
- Investigations & Corrections:
Investigate potential violations of internal compliance policies, manage complaints, and recommend swift corrective actions to management.
- Executive Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the Executive Team and external lawyers to integrate seamless compliance protocols directly into business processes and new projects.
- Employee Training: Provide clear training, ongoing guidance, and educational materials to employees and staff on compliance-related topics and ethical standards.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and submit thorough compliance reports to management and official regulatory bodies, maintaining flawless records of all compliance outcomes.
- Agency Point of Contact: Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, confidently responding to external inquiries, audits, or structural inspections.
What We’re Looking For:
- Educational & Professional Background: A legal background is required. You are a recent law school graduate, a trained legal assistant, or a certified paralegal.
- Regulatory & Legal Acumen: Familiarity with interpreting Canadian provincial statutes, municipal bylaws, and regulatory frameworks (experience with transportation, healthcare, or corporate law is a major asset).
- Logistical & Tracking Skills: Exceptional organizational skills with a proven ability to manage tight timelines, track document completion, and maintain flawless records.
- Work Ethic: A self-motivated builder with an entrepreneurial mindset who thrives on problem-solving and transforming ambiguity into structured processes.
- Tech Proficiency: High proficiency with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel and Word). Experience with CRM systems and digital tracking tools is a major asset.
- Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
You can comfortably translate complex legal/regulatory language for leadership, employees, and external partners.
- Mission-Driven: A genuine passion for making a difference, supporting community health, and serving those who have served our country.
Why Join Us:
- Make a Real Impact: Every process you streamline directly ensures that veterans and individuals facing health challenges receive safe, dignified, and reliable care. Your work bridges the gap between legal compliance and life-changing community service.
- Build and Scale: You won’t just be maintaining an existing system or filling out forms. You will be the lead architect building a proprietary compliance engine from the ground up—one that will directly fuel our multi-province expansion strategy.
- Elite Professional Development: Gain high-level, hands-on exposure to corporate structuring, multi-jurisdictional regulatory law, and venture scaling. You will work side-by-side with executive leadership and seasoned external legal experts, accelerating your legal and corporateacumen.
- Entrepreneurial Culture: We value initiative, fresh ideas, and decisive leadership. If you want your voice heard, you will fit right in.
- Grow with us: Join a rapidly expanding company with a powerful mission and significant growth ahead.
How to Apply:
If you’re ready to take on a role where you can truly shape the future of our operations, we’d love to hear from you! Please submit your application through Indeed.
