Role Overview

Responsibilities:

- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, make-up air units, boilers, exhaust fans, chillers, and refrigeration equipment.
- Complete installations, replacements, retrofits, and start-ups of HVAC/R equipment, including piping, brazing, evacuation, charging, and commissioning
- Service commercial refrigeration systems (walk-in coolers and freezers, display cases, condensing units) including leak detection, recovery, recharging, and refrigerant logging in accordance with provincial and federal regulations.
- Test, adjust, and troubleshoot thermostats, sensors, controllers, and basic building automation and DDC controls; escalate advanced controls issues as required.
- Communicate professionally with building owners, property managers, tenants, and on-site staff regarding work performed, deficiencies, and recommendations.




- Order and verify parts, materials, and equipment required for assigned service calls, and maintain the assigned service vehicle, tools, and test instruments in clean, calibrated, and secure working condition.
- Verify that all work meets manufacturer specifications, warranty requirements, and Canstar’s quality standards before leaving site.

Responsibilities:

- Red Seal Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic certification, or a registered apprentice with relevant commercial HVAC/R experience.
- Hands-on commercial HVAC/R service experience, preferably in commercial, institutional, or light industrial buildings
- Valid Technical Safety BC refrigeration operating permit or Class B gas fitter ticket, and a valid refrigerant handling (ODP) card.
- Sound working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, controls, and applicable codes and standards.
- Effective communication skills and strong attention to detail; able to work collaboratively with clients, tenants, office staff, field crews, and other trades, and to manage multiple service calls in a day.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract; able to travel to sites across the Lower Mainland as required.
- Physically able to work at heights, on rooftops, in mechanical rooms, and in confined spaces, and to lift and carry equipment safely.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work both independently and within a team environment.
