Assistant General Manager ; The Cambie Bar (Gastown)

The legendary The Cambie Bar is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant General Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate is a passionate hospitality professional with strong leadership experience, a background in floor operations, and a commitment to creating memorable experiences for every guest.
As Assistant General Manager, you will work closely with The Cambie leadership team, and Food & Beverage Operations Manager to support daily operations, develop our team, maintain service standards, and help achieve business goals.
We are looking for an outside-the-box thinker who thrives in a fast-paced environment, leads by example, and takes pride in delivering exceptional guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities:Floor & Service Operations
- Oversee daily floor operations to ensure smooth, efficient service during busy periods.
- Lead and support front-of-house teams, including hosts, servers, bartenders, and bussers, ensuring excellent guest service, effective communication, proper workflow, and adherence to service standards.
- Monitor guest experiences, address concerns professionally, and create solutions to enhance customer satisfaction.
- Ensure food and beverage service standards, quality control, and presentation meet company expectations.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and motivate team members to achieve operational and service goals.
- Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and performance development support.
- Assist with creating and updating training materials, manuals, and operational procedures.
- Support onboarding and training of new employees to ensure consistency and success.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Operations & Business Support
- Assist with scheduling, labour management, and controlling operational costs while maintaining service quality.
- Support inventory management, ordering processes, and product control.
- Monitor sales trends, guest feedback, and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with management on promotions, menu initiatives, and strategies to improve guest experiences.
- Work closely with HR on recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and employee development.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain health and safety standards and ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Support a safe, respectful, and professional workplace environment.
- Ensure all team members follow proper procedures and operational standards.
Leadership Expectations
- Be a flexible and hands-on leader who is willing to support any area of operations when needed.
- Maintain a positive attitude and remain calm under pressure in a high-energy setting.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of proven leadership or floor management experience within the hospitality industry.
- Strong knowledge of restaurant operations, guest service, and team leadership.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to coach, train, and develop employees effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Experience with scheduling, inventory management, and cost control.
- Ability to remain professional and composed in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional hospitality experiences.
