About the Position

Great Lawns Property Care Inc. is seeking experienced, dependable and safety-focused Salt Truck Operators to join our winter operations team.

The successful candidates will operate company salt trucks and spreading equipment to apply salt and approved de-icing materials at assigned commercial properties throughout Belleville and the Quinte Region.

This is a weather-dependent, on-call position. Operators must be prepared to respond to winter weather events on short notice, including freezing rain, snowfall, flash freezes and rapidly changing site conditions. Call-outs may occur during the day, overnight, early mornings, weekends and statutory holidays.

Hours are determined by weather conditions and operational requirements; therefore, a minimum number of weekly hours is not guaranteed.

Primary Responsibilities

- Safely operate a company salt truck and material-spreading equipment on assigned routes and commercial properties.
- Apply salt and other approved de-icing materials according to site instructions, weather conditions and established application rates.
- Follow assigned route sheets, property maps and service instructions, paying particular attention to entrances, intersections, slopes, loading areas and other high-risk locations.
- Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checks of the truck, tires, lights, brakes, fluids, hydraulics, spreader and safety equipment.
- Maintain regular communication with dispatch and supervisors before, during and after each route.
- Accurately document service times, site conditions, material usage, areas treated, hazards identified, photographs and any recommended follow-up service.
- Report equipment defects, unsafe conditions, property damage,



incidents or service concerns immediately.
- Refuel, clean and prepare the truck and spreading equipment for the next call-out.
- Operate carefully around parked vehicles, buildings, curbs, landscaping, drainage areas, pedestrians and other equipment.
- Follow company policies, safe-work procedures, applicable traffic laws and personal protective equipment requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

- Three to five years of commercial salt-truck, winter-maintenance or comparable heavy-truck operating experience is preferred.
- Previous experience operating hydraulic or electric salt-spreading equipment is strongly preferred.
- Valid Ontario DZ licence preferred.
- Applicants must possess the licence class and endorsements legally required for the vehicle they are assigned to operate.
- Safe driving history and an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Ability to safely operate in snow, ice, poor visibility and other challenging winter conditions.
- Ability to work independently, follow detailed site instructions and make responsible decisions when conditions change.
- Availability for weather-related call-outs throughout the entire winter season, including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to acknowledge dispatch communications promptly and report to the designated shop or work location within the established response period.
- Reliable transportation to the reporting location.
- Working mobile phone and ability to use a smartphone for dispatch, time tracking, photographs and service documentation.
- Ability to safely enter and exit the truck repeatedly and perform required vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Familiarity with Belleville, Quinte West, Prince Edward County and the surrounding Quinte Region is an asset.




- Basic mechanical knowledge and the ability to recognize equipment problems are assets.

Compensation and Working Conditions

- $24.00–$28.00 per hour, based on relevant experience, licence qualifications, driving history and demonstrated salt-truck operating ability.
- Seasonal employment from November 1, 2026 through April 30, 2027.
- On-call, weather-dependent scheduling with no guaranteed minimum number of hours.
- Company truck and assigned operating equipment provided.
- Work may involve irregular and extended shifts during significant winter weather events.
- Successful applicants may be required to provide a current driver’s abstract and complete a practical driving or equipment-operating assessment.
