This is a unique opportunity to work alongside talented people supporting exceptional properties in distinctive international locations.
Position Overview
The Controller will be a senior member of the Cabot Management Company (CMC) finance team and a trusted partner to the Vice President, Finance. This role is responsible for the integrity of CMC's accounting and financial reporting across a multi-entity corporate structure, leading the month-end and year-end processes, and strengthening the controls, systems and routines that support a growing international management company. The scope may also include accounting support for selected properties or development-stage businesses as organizational needs evolve to deliver on Cabot’s mission ‘To Create Magical Places’.
Profile Overview
You are a hands-on, knowledgeable accountant who is comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment. You bring rigour, sound judgement and organizational discipline while remaining practical and responsive to the needs of the business. As Controller, you are a trusted teammate who maintains the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality while exemplifying Cabot's values of confidence, authenticity, humility, and warmth.
You act as the accounting anchor for the Home Office finance team: technically strong, disciplined in execution and collaborative in how you work with the broader organization. You will be expected to take ownership, raise issues early, recommend practical solutions and help build a finance function that can scale with Cabot. The role offers meaningful exposure across a varied international business and the prospect to make a visible contribution as the organization continues to evolve.
Core Responsibilities:
- Own the monthly close and financial statement reporting process for CMC and its related entities, including reconciliations, consolidation, variance analysis and supporting schedules.
- Lead the annual year-end process and coordinate the external audit, tax and statutory reporting requirements.
- Maintain strong balance sheet discipline and ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, timely and well supported.
- Oversee cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and tax compliance, with a focus on improving reliability and follow-through.
- Develop and document practical accounting policies, controls and standard operating procedures.
- Identify and implement process, system and financial reporting improvements that increase efficiency,
consistency and visibility, while keeping the core accounting records and close process strong.
- Provide technical accounting guidance and hands-on support to finance teams and business leaders across Cabot’s managed operations.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning and ad hoc analysis for management, while maintaining a primary focus on accounting and financial reporting.
- Help establish priorities, track commitments and ensure key finance deliverables are completed on time.
- Coach and support members of the finance team as the function continues to evolve.
What you bring:
- CPA designation with strong technical accounting knowledge and sound judgement.
- Approximately 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end and year-end reporting processes.
- Experience in controllership or senior accounting/finance leadership; audit experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to improve controls, document processes and bring order to complex or evolving environments.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong working knowledge of modern accounting and reporting systems.
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across the organization.
- High standards of accuracy, integrity, accountability and confidentiality.
- A practical, hands-on approach and the flexibility to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced business.
- Experience in multi-entity, international, hospitality, real estate or management company environments is an asset.
