Job Description:

The successful candidate will provide assessment, treatment and counselling of swallowing and communication disorders for patients within Cardiac Health at THP Mississauga Hospital site including, Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, CCU, and CSICU. Collaboration with other health care professionals providing patient and family centered care in a team setting is an integral part of this position. Education and training for staff, family, students and volunteers to maximize patient goals as required. Provide clinical teaching, mentoring and/or supervision for SLP students; engaging with inter-professional education experiences with students of all health disciplines. Contribution to the SLP service to advocate for and enhance the quality of the service within the organization and community as required. Expectation to contribute to clinical education of graduate SLP students on an annual basis. Caseload responsibilities may change to accommodate SLP needs throughout the organization.

Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology




- Licensed with the College of Audiologists & Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
- Previous experience with assessment and management of swallowing and communication disorders in an acute care setting is required
- Minimum 1 year experience in Critical care required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in acute care surgery required
- Experience with tracheostomies is required
- Current experience with swallowing videofluoroscopy is required
- Certification in MBSImp (for videofluoroscopic swallow studies) is preferred. If not MBSImp certified, then willingness to become certified is required
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, including clinical education with students and/or mentorship of Initial Practice Registrants
- Strong organization and prioritization skills with demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed quick paced team environment
- Superior interpersonal communication skills, including verbal and written communication
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education as relevant to clinical practice and professional growth
