Heartland Housing Foundation serves over 1000 households in Fort Saskatchewan & Strathcona County as a not-for-profit housing management body and the administrators for provincially funded rent supplement programs. We operate 12 properties, including affordable lodges, rent-geared-to-income seniors housing, and near market housing for all ages.

- Pay: Competitive pay with an expected starting salary between $28.94 - $31.70 per hour. The full pay range for the position is $28.94- $35.71 per hour, with progression based on performance. A salary review is conducted after 12 months of employment.

Hours

- Hours: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; occasionally evening/weekends for special events.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday

Position Overview

The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for assessing the needs of our residents, developing, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the recreational programming, ensuring all eight dimensions of wellness are targeted. Using a variety of recreational activities mediums the Recreation Coordinator will develop programming, schedule outings, invite participation from community groups, recruit and schedule volunteers, etc., to help engage the residents in life-enriching activities. Working in collaboration with all Heartland Housing Foundation lodges, the Recreation Coordinator will share and implement ideas to encourage consistent programming throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

Event, Activity and Program Execution and Evaluation

- Develop and Coordinate Programs: Plan, implement, and schedule all recreation programs and events, ensuring residents' wellness across dimensions.
- Evaluate Program Effectiveness: Assess program and event effectiveness, ensuring alignment with wellness goals.
- Manage Volunteer Program: Coordinate volunteer activities, including recruitment, training, and evaluation.
- Participate in Organizational Meetings: Actively contribute to organizational meetings, sharing ideas and encouraging consistent programming.
- Liaise with Stakeholders: Communicate with residents, family members, and service providers to address concerns and provide information.
- Coordinate Event Support: Arrange support from various departments and external vendors for event setup and execution.
- Monitor and Adjust Programming: Evaluate and adjust programs to ensure participation, satisfaction, and wellness goals are met.

Leadership

- Seek Grant Opportunities: Identify and apply for potential grant or donor options with head office approval.
- Manage Budget: Ensure all recreational expenditures are accounted for and provide feedback on variances to site manager.

Supervision

- Provide Guidance to Team: Offer ongoing guidance and support to team members to ensure effective task performance.
- Manage Work Assignments: Organize and assign tasks to trained employees, coordinating with operational needs.
- Recruit and Train Team: Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and training of team members as required.




- Handle Conflict: Resolve conflicts within the team and act as a liaison between team and higher management.

Community/Stakeholder Relationships

- Establish Collaborative Partnerships: Build partnerships with community groups and organizations to support resident housing services.
- Communicate with Stakeholders: Liaise with community groups and stakeholders to inform them of organizational activities and seek support for recreation programs.
- Participate in Community Engagement: Attend community meetings and participate in information sharing and educational opportunities.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Stewardship

- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
- Cleanliness and Hygiene: Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, adhering to health standards at all times.

Requirements

- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, or other related field is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
- Experience working within the YARDI system or other property management software is an asset.
- First Aid/CPR certification is preferred.
- Three (3) years of progressive experience in operations, administration, customer service, property management, hospitality or food service environments, or a related setting.
- Demonstrated supervisory or team leadership responsibilities would be an asset/preferred.

Working Conditions

- Ongoing customer service and communication with staff, residents , volunteers and visitors
- Physical activity involving walking, standing, bending and lifting
- Must be able to lift, push and pull equipment and supplies in accordance with the position’s Physical Demands Analysis document
- Occasionally may be required to handle, clean, dispose, or move objects or materials and perform the cleanup of blood, infectious materials and/or other biohazards
- May handle and work with various cleaning products
- Shifts flexibility is required, as occasionally scheduled events and activities may create overtime
