Banquet Porter - Event Operations

Role Summary

Reporting to the Event Operations Supervisor and the Event Operations Leadership Team, this position is responsible for supporting the successful execution of banquet, conference, wedding, and special event functions in accordance with JW Marriott brand standards and Leading Quality Assurance (LQA) service expectations. The Banquet Porter is responsible for the setup, maintenance, and breakdown of event spaces while ensuring a safe, organized, and welcoming environment that contributes to memorable guest experiences and operational excellence.

Accountabilities

- Complete the set-up and final breakdown of banquet functions, including cleaning event spaces and returning equipment and supplies to designated storage areas
- Set up meeting rooms, banquet spaces, beverage stations, buffets, receptions, coffee breaks, and other event functions according to Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and departmental standards
- Create memorable guest experiences by anticipating guest needs and maintaining event spaces that reflect JW Marriott luxury hospitality standards
- Monitor function rooms throughout events to ensure cleanliness, organization, and presentation standards are consistently met
- Assist with the preparation, replenishment, and presentation of food and beverage stations as required
- Transport, arrange, and store tables, chairs, staging, linen, audiovisual equipment, and banquet supplies safely and efficiently
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned banquet, meeting, storage, and service areas
- Transport dirty linen to the appropriate area, separate napkins and tablecloths, and restock linen shelves with clean inventory
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day by practicing clean-as-you-go procedures
- Assist other departments as needed to support operational efficiency and exceptional guest service
- Welcome and acknowledge guests according to JW Marriott and LQA service standards,



responding professionally to requests and directing inquiries appropriately
- Anticipate and address guest service needs promptly and courteously while demonstrating genuine hospitality
- Speak with guests, clients, and associates using clear, professional, and respectful communication
- Support team members and contribute to a collaborative work environment focused on achieving departmental goals
- Protect confidential guest, client, company, and associate information while safeguarding company assets
- Complete opening and closing duties, including securing equipment, storing reusable goods, locking designated areas, and ensuring all duties are completed according to departmental procedures
- Follow all company safety, security, food handling, and sanitation policies and procedures
- Report accidents, injuries, hazards, and unsafe working conditions to management immediately and complete all required safety training and certifications
- Maintain a professional appearance and uniform standards consistent with JW Marriott brand expectations
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance standards and departmental operating procedures
- Adhere to all environmental policies and sustainability initiatives as required
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements

- Minimum one year of related work experience required
- Previous hospitality, banquet, conference, event setup, or food and beverage experience considered an asset
- Knowledge of basic sanitation controls and the purpose and proper use of cleaning supplies
- Knowledge of Marriott sanitation standards, food handling safety, and sanitation procedures

- Ability to follow detailed banquet event orders and setup diagrams accurately

Working Conditions

- Must be able to work flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Required to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier objects with assistance
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
- Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces and up and down stairs and/or service ramps
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, stooping, and kneeling
- Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats, including small print
- Perform repetitive physical tasks requiring manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and safe lifting techniques

Pay: $19.74 per hour
