Job Summary:

The Site Safety Coordinator / Trainer supports the EPLS Health & Safety Program at Nunavut sites by promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with territorial and federal regulations, and reducing risk through training, inspections, and strong field presence. The role includes delivering equipment-specific training and overseeing contractor safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

- Support implementation of the EPLS Safety Program and encourage a proactive safety culture through coaching and field engagement.
- Oversee the contractor safety program, ensuring compliance with site-specific requirements, legislation, and company policies.
- Conduct site orientations, toolbox talks, and safety meetings; ensure all training records are accurate and current.
- Identify, coordinate and deliver safety training (WHMIS, Fall Protection, LOTO, Confined Space Entry, Equipment Specific training.)
- Apply prior equipment operator experience to assess competency, coach workers, and evaluate safe operating practices.
- Possess or be able to obtain Train‑the‑Trainer certifications for all relevant programs and equipment.
- Maintain daily field presence; perform hazard assessments, inspections, and observations; document findings and support corrective actions.
- Lead or support incident investigations, conduct root cause analysis, and track corrective actions.
- Assist in developing and reviewing safe work practices, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and emergency response plans.
- Maintain safety documentation such as bulletin boards, reports, inspection records, statistics, and training logs.
- Ensure compliance with Nunavut OH&S; legislation and all applicable company policies and procedures.




- Participate in Occupational Health & Safety Committee activities and worker representative meetings.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), preferably in construction, mining, or remote project environments.
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated equipment operator experience (e.g., loaders, forklifts, skid steers, MEWPs, telehandlers) is a robust asset.
- Practical knowledge on adult education.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Current certifications in First Aid, Confined Space, and Fall Protection
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital Safety Management Systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Capable of leading by example and managing multiple priorities in a demanding environment.
- Effective conflict resolution, incident investigation, and risk management.
- Working knowledge of Nunavut OH&S; legislation would be considered an asset.

Ability to obtain Train‑the‑Trainer certifications for:

- Front-End Loader
- Forklift
- Telehandler
- Mobile Elevated Work Platforms
- Skid Steer
- Working at Heights
- WHMIS
- Respirator Fit Testing
- First Aid Instructor

Working Conditions

- Remote site work in Nunavut with extended stays required (or relocation?)
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and rugged terrain.
- Must be comfortable working in a multicultural, diverse, and inclusive environment.

Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
