You will take ownership of the proposal development process and cost-estimating activities, identifying project risks, clarifying requirements, and ensuring that each quotation accurately reflects the required materials, labour, engineering, integration, and commissioning effort.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the preparation of budgets, quotations, proposals, and cost breakdowns for custom machinery and automation projects.
- Review customer RFQs, specifications, drawings, and project requirements to identify scope, assumptions, exclusions, and potential risks.
- Lead RFQ review meetings with customers, either on-site or at our facility, and translate requirements into actionable estimating and project information.
- Develop detailed estimates for mechanical systems, electrical systems, controls, robotics, pneumatics, hydraulics, fabrication, machining, assembly, installation, and commissioning.
- Work with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to develop preliminary machine concepts, equipment layouts, and system architectures.
- Engage with suppliers, vendors, and distributors to obtain accurate pricing, lead times, and technical information for purchased components and equipment.
- Define project deliverables, preliminary schedules, interfaces, and responsibilities to support accurate proposals.
- Prepare clear technical specifications, scope descriptions, costing assumptions, and commercial documentation.
- Identify technical, commercial, and scheduling risks early and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
- Review estimates with internal stakeholders to validate labour hours, material costs, engineering requirements, and project margins.
- Support sales and project management during customer presentations, proposal reviews, negotiations, and handoffs to execution teams.
- Identify gaps and opportunities to improve estimating tools, cost sheets, proposal processes, and project outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, vendors, and internal teams.
- Travel <10%, with flexibility for occasional additional travel based on project requirements.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and proposal deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and commercial information clearly.
- Confidence presenting proposals and technical concepts to customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
