Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, full-time Senior Structural Fitter Welder to join our shop-based team. In this role, you will lead the fabrication and assembly of heavy structural steel components (beams, columns, trusses, and girders) from raw materials. You will interpret complex structural blueprints, fit parts to precise tolerances, and execute high-quality welds. As a senior team member, you will also mentor junior fabricators and ensure all work complies with industry codes and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Structural Assembly: Read and interpret structural blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols to lay out, fit, and align steel parts.
- Tack and Final Welding: Utilize heavy-duty welding processes (primarily FCAW/Flux-Core and SMAW/Stick) to secure joints according to structural specifications.
- Material Preparation: Operate fabrication equipment including ironworkers, band saws, torch cutters, plasma cutters,



and grinders to prepare steel profiles.
- Rigging and Crane Operation: Safely rig, hoist, and position large steel beams and plates using overhead gantry cranes and forklifts.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect fit-ups and completed welds to ensure strict adherence to weld sizes, tolerances, and structural integrity standards.
- Leadership: Provide technical guidance to apprentice fabricators, troubleshoot assembly issues, and maintain a clean, organized shop floor.

Requirements and Qualifications

- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural steel fitting and heavy fabrication.
- Certifications: Current structural welding certifications (e.g., CWB, AWS D1.1) are highly preferred.
- Skills: Advanced blueprint reading, layout math, and strong rigging skills for handling heavy loads.
- Physical Stamina: Capability to lift heavy components, work on your feet for full shifts, and handle the physical demands of a structural shop.

Pay: $31.00-$38.00 per hour
