We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Fine Dining Sommelier / Restaurant Supervisor to join our Food & Beverage leadership team. This role is ideal for a hospitality professional who combines a deep appreciation for wine with strong leadership skills and a commitment to delivering world-class service.

As an ambassador for Hastings House, you will play a key role in creating memorable dining experiences by guiding guests through our wine program, leading front-of-house service, and supporting a culture of excellence, professionalism, and genuine hospitality.

About the Role

The Fine Dining Sommelier / Restaurant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing exceptional evening dining service while providing expert wine guidance and leadership to the restaurant team. Working closely with the Executive Chef, culinary team, and management, this position ensures seamless service execution while maintaining the refined standards expected of a Relais & Châteaux property.

The successful candidate will possess strong wine knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead by example in a luxury dining environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesWine & Beverage Leadership

· Provide knowledgeable and personalized wine recommendations to enhance each guest’s dining experience.

· Lead wine presentations, pairings, and service with confidence and professionalism.

· Maintain strong knowledge of the restaurant’s wine cellar, regional wine offerings, vintages, and food pairings.

· Assist with wine list development, inventory management, cellar organization, and purchasing.

· Train and mentor service staff on wine knowledge, beverage service,



and pairing techniques.

· Ensure proper wine storage, handling, and service standards are maintained.

Restaurant Supervision & Service Excellence

· Lead and support evening restaurant operations to ensure exceptional guest experiences.

· Coordinate front-of-house service while maintaining Relais & Châteaux standards of excellence.

· Conduct pre-service meetings, assign stations, and communicate daily features, menu updates, and service expectations.

· Support servers, bartenders, and support staff during service.

· Monitor service flow, timing, and guest satisfaction throughout the dining experience.

· Address guest requests and concerns with professionalism, discretion, and thoughtful solutions.

· Ensure dining room presentation, cleanliness, and service standards are consistently maintained.

· Assist management with training, scheduling, inventory, and operational duties as required.

Qualifications

· Minimum 3 years of experience in fine dining, luxury hospitality, or upscale restaurant service.

· Previous experience as a sommelier, wine steward, restaurant supervisor, or senior server.

· Strong knowledge of wine, food pairings, spirits, and beverage service.

· Wine certification such as WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, ISG, or equivalent is considered a strong asset.

· Valid Serving It Right certification is required.

· Proven ability to lead and motivate a front-of-house team.

· Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

· Professional appearance and polished service style.





· Ability to remain calm, organized, and attentive in a fast-paced fine dining environment.

· Genuine passion for hospitality and creating exceptional guest experiences.

· Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Position Details

· Job Type: Full-time or Part-time, Seasonal

· Contract Term: Seasonal position ending November 2, 2026

Schedule:

o 8-hour evening shifts

o Evening service

o Weekends and holidays as required

Location Requirement

Applicants must be able to reliably commute to Salt Spring Island, BC V8K 2S2, or plan to relocate before their start date. Subsidized staff accommodation is available for eligible employees.
