About the role As a Tailings Engineer of Record at Bgcengineering, you will play a crucial role in the management and oversight of tailings storage facilities. Your expertise will ensure that these facilities are designed, constructed, and operated in compliance with industry standards and regulations. This position requires a deep understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, as well as a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative solutions that meet the needs of our clients while protecting the environment.Key facts
Location: Vancouver, British ColumbiaEngagement: Full-timeWhat you'll do
Serve as the primary engineer responsible for the design, construction, and operation of tailings storage facilities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.Conduct detailed geotechnical analyses to assess the stability and performance of tailings dams and other related structures.Develop and implement monitoring programs to track the performance of tailings facilities, including instrumentation and data analysis.Prepare comprehensive technical reports and documentation for regulatory submissions, project proposals, and client presentations.Collaborate with project managers, environmental scientists, and other engineers to develop integrated solutions for tailings management.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff, fostering a culture of learning and career development.Engage with clients and stakeholders to communicate project progress, address concerns,



and ensure alignment with project goals.Participate in site inspections and audits to assess compliance with design specifications and operational standards.Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to tailings management and geotechnical engineering.Contribute to the development of innovative technologies and methodologies for tailings management, including waste reduction and recycling initiatives.Assist in the preparation of budgets and schedules for tailings management projects, ensuring timely delivery and cost-effectiveness.Support the company's commitment to sustainability by identifying opportunities for reducing the environmental impact of tailings operations.Requirements
A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in tailings management, geotechnical engineering, or a related discipline.Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia or the ability to obtain it within a reasonable timeframe.Strong understanding of tailings management practices, regulations, and industry standards.Proven experience in conducting geotechnical analyses and designing tailings storage facilities.Excellent written and verbal communication skills,



with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented approach to project work.Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.Willingness to travel to project sites as required for inspections and audits.Nice to have
Experience with environmental assessments and permitting processes related to tailings management.Familiarity with software tools for geotechnical analysis and modeling, such as GeoStudio or PLAXIS.Knowledge of emerging technologies and practices in tailings management, including closure and reclamation strategies.Previous experience in a consulting environment, particularly in the mining or resource sector.A Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.Skills & tools
Proficiency in geotechnical engineering software and tools for analysis and modeling.Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements for tailings management in Canada.Ability to utilize data analysis tools for monitoring and performance assessment of tailings facilities.Practical notes
This position is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and may require occasional travel to project sites across the region.The salary for this role will be competitive and commensurate with experience, with additional benefits provided by Bgcengineering.Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada and possess the necessary visa or work permits if applicable.
