About the role
Positrace is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Controller to join our team in Burnaby, British Columbia. This full-time position is pivotal in overseeing our financial operations and ensuring the integrity of our financial reporting. As the Controller, you will play a key role in shaping the financial strategy of our organization, providing insights that drive decision-making and support our growth initiatives. You will collaborate closely with various departments to ensure that our financial practices align with our business objectives.

What you'll do
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Manage the company's budgeting process, including forecasting and variance analysis to ensure financial targets are met.
- Develop and implement robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
- Collaborate with external auditors during the annual audit process, ensuring all necessary documentation and support are provided.
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior management and the board of directors, highlighting key performance indicators and financial trends.
- Supervise and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local tax regulations, including timely filing and payment of taxes.
- Analyze financial data to identify areas for cost reduction and operational efficiency, making recommendations to improve profitability.
- Maintain relationships with financial institutions, ensuring access to necessary funding and managing banking relationships.
- Assist in the development of financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and ensure compliance with best practices.
- Support strategic planning initiatives by providing financial insights and analysis to guide business decisions.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in financial regulations that may impact the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial management role, with a strong background in accounting and financial reporting.
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Exceptional communication skills,
both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing financial issues.
Nice to have
- Experience in the technology or software industry is an advantage.
- Familiarity with international financial reporting standards (IFRS) is a plus.
- Previous experience with financial modeling and scenario analysis.
- Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance requirements in Canada.
- Experience in process improvement initiatives within finance functions.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for financial modeling and data analysis.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting tools and dashboards.
- Ability to utilize data visualization tools to present financial information effectively.
