Regional Fire Technician
Regular/full-time position located in Thompson, MB. Compensation: RS4 salary range of $2,272.00 – $2,789.60 bi-weekly, plus Remoteness Allowance and Qualification Pay where applicable.

Responsibilities
The Regional Fire Technician provides technical expertise and assistance to regional and district field service staff in the planning and delivery of the region’s forest fire management programs. The role reports to the Fire Control Officer and supervises the Regional Fire Cache and Regional Fire Ranger staff. Key activities include:
- Monitoring staff training certification levels, coordinating re‑certification and training courses.
- Ensuring quality of the regional Initial Attack Crew, Fire Ranger, and Emergency Fire Fighter programs.
- Assisting in the development and instruction of regional and provincial fire training programs.
- Managing the regional fire management inventory system and researching current equipment and suppression techniques, including reporting and demonstrations.
- Assisting with staff selection and recruitment and representing the region on Provincial Working Groups and Task Teams.
- Serving as Regional Duty Officer on a rotational and as‑needed basis and participating in fire suppression activities across the region or province when required.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Graduation from a Resource Management program or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in wildfire suppression.
- Extensive experience and knowledge of wildfire suppression techniques, equipment, and fire‑fighting aircraft.
- Understanding of wildfire behaviour.
- Strong planning, organizational and supervisory skills, including the ability to coach, train, motivate and performance‑manage staff.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making under stressful conditions.
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) or equivalent.
Desirable:
- Experience developing fire training programs and materials.
Conditions of Employment
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must possess and maintain a full‑stage Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence (or equivalent).
- Willingness to travel throughout Manitoba, including overnight stays in remote field camps.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required.
- Physically capable of performing the duties, including flying frequently in various small aircraft and working in adverse weather conditions.
