Undertakes one‐on‐one and group advising in‐person, on the phone, or through our CRM or other online channels, providing a welcoming first impression of UBC and effective recruiting and advising services to international and Canadian students. The position works primarily in‐person on the UBC Vancouver campus, Tuesday to Saturday, and reports to the Welcome Centre Advising Coordinator.Work PerformedPlans, develops and implements effective and innovative front‐line advising services. This includes creating advising activities that encourage prospective undergraduate students to apply to UBC, complete their application, and accept their offer of admission. Examples include live text‐chat events, in‐person and online information sessions, and responding to inquiries from prospective students. Collects and maintains data on the origin of prospective students, tracks and assesses patterns of participation and contact, and designs assessment tools to solicit feedback for program improvement. Uses the CRM system to load, tag, analyze student interactions, and produces qualitative and quantitative summary reports for the Welcome Centre Advising Coordinator.Provides advising services in a professional, proactive manner, anticipating prospective student needs and coaching students toward independence. Advises on admission requirements, application deadlines, tuition, financial awards, on‐campus housing, academic programs, orientation, and all features of the undergraduate student experience at UBC. Handles front‐desk advising, makes referrals, delivers group sessions both online and in‐person,
and resolves complex problems presented by prospective international students while respecting organizational roles.Works proficiently with the Student Information System and CRM to obtain inquiry and application status, to plan programs, run reports, and communicate with prospects. Captures and manages sensitive advisory interactions in accordance with privacy policy. Exercises sound judgment, follows departmental protocols for local travel safety, and participates in evaluation of the personal profile component for international undergraduate awards adjudication.Minimum QualificationsUndergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.Minimum of one to two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including those in conflict with one's own.Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing personal awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.Preferred QualificationsSound knowledge of university admission criteria and services for Canadian and international students.Knowledge of major secondary educational systems (Canadian provinces, British patterned, US, IB, and others) is an asset.Lived international experience preferred.Experience in a post‐secondary education setting preferred.Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, especially under pressure to meet deadlines.Experience in student advising and delivering presentations preferred.Previous experience with Student Information Systems or other enterprise database solutions and CRM systems preferred.Experience applying technology to improve student and/or client services is an asset.Performance Competencies and CriteriaDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in public‐speaking roles.Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team.Ability to take initiative and exercise resourcefulness.Demonstrated time‐management skills and ability to prioritize,
