The OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced Master to join our Simulator Training Centre (STC) team as a Shore Captain – Bridge Simulation Training. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and delivering high-quality bridge simulation training that supports safe, consistent, and best-practice navigation across the fleet.Job DescriptionSHORE CAPTAIN BRIDGE SIMULATIONNanaimo6-Month Term CertainThe OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced Master to join our Simulator Training Centre (STC) team as a Shore Captain – Bridge Simulation Training. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and delivering high-quality bridge simulation training that supports safe, consistent, and best-practice navigation across the fleet.You will work directly with Masters and deck officers to strengthen bridge team performance through coaching, assessment, and structured learning. This is a hands‐on role where your operational expertise will directly inform training design, delivery, and continuous improvement.The RoleDelivering and supporting bridge simulation trainingCoaching, mentoring and assessing Masters and deck officersGathering and analyzing bridge officer learning requirementsDeveloping, modifying and maintaining instructional resources and curriculumSupporting navigation assessments; coordinating daily delivery of learning events; maintaining training, trainee development and simulator recordsSupporting the STC quality management systemContributing to navigation policy updatesManaging simulator assets and related contractsCollaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendorsSupporting budget administrationPromoting continuous improvement of the STC program.Deliver and support bridge simulation trainingWhat You Bring To The TeamEducation & CertificationTransport Canada Master's Certificate or equivalent professional certification as a MasterDegree or diploma in Nautical Sciences, Engineering, Management, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and operational marine experienceAdult education or instructor certification is required or strongly preferredDemonstrated capability in instructional design, facilitation, coaching, and adult learning principlesExperienceSignificant operational marine experience (approximately 10+ years at sea)4–6 years in an operational leadership role (e.G., Officer, Chief Officer)1–3 years in command as Master or equivalentExperience leading teams, programs, budgets, or operational projectsExperience in bridge team operations, navigation policy, or simulator-based training is an assetPrior instructional or facilitation experience is preferredCompetencies & AttributesStrong operational judgment and decision-making in complex marine environmentsCredibility and confidence working with experienced Masters and deck officersAbility to coach, mentor, and provide constructive, practical feedbackExcellent communication and influencing skills across all levels of the organizationAnalytical thinking and problem-solving, with the ability to translate operational needs into training solutionsComfort working collaboratively across departments and with external vendorsStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain detailed recordsCommitment to quality, continuous improvement, and qualified standardsTact, professionalism,
