We're Hiring – Legal Administrative Assistant / Paralegal – Family Law
Location: Tri-cities, BC
Position Type: Full-Time
We are hiring a Legal Administrative Assistant / Paralegal – Family Law on behalf of our client, a distinguished and highly regarded full-service law firm located in the Tri-cities Area.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Family Law Legal Administrative Assistant or Paralegal who enjoys taking ownership of files, thrives in a fast-paced litigation environment, and is looking to continue developing their career within a collaborative and supportive legal team. The successful candidate will support a busy Family Law practice while undertaking both traditional legal administrative responsibilities and substantive paralegal duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Family Law files from intake through resolution while ensuring compliance with court rules, procedural requirements, and litigation deadlines.
- Prepare, draft, edit, and file a wide variety of Family Law legal documents, including pleadings, court forms, financial disclosure, affidavits, applications, correspondence, mediation briefs, arbitration materials, and other litigation documentation.
- Undertake substantive paralegal duties, including drafting legal documentation, preparing hearing and trial materials, organizing evidence and disclosure, and assisting lawyers throughout all stages of litigation.
- Coordinate and schedule court appearances, mediations, arbitrations, examinations, client meetings, discoveries, and hearings.
- Maintain lawyers' calendars, limitation dates,
and bring-forward systems to ensure critical deadlines are met.
- Prepare electronic and paper filing packages for the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Provincial Court of British Columbia, including e-filing where applicable.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court registries, experts, mediators, arbitrators, and other third parties.
- Organize and maintain legal files, correspondence, evidence, financial disclosure, and document management systems.
- Conduct conflict checks, open and close files, assist with billing, time entry, trust documentation, and general practice management.
- Provide exceptional client service while maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive Family Law matters.
- Assist lawyers with legal research, document organization, and other substantive litigation support as required.
Qualifications
- Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate, Paralegal Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant legal experience.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience supporting a Family Law practice within a British Columbia law firm.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and filing Family Law court documents with the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Provincial Court of British Columbia.
- Experience undertaking substantive paralegal responsibilities, including drafting legal documents and supporting lawyers throughout the litigation process, is considered a strong asset.
- Strong understanding of Family Law procedures, court rules, litigation timelines, and filing requirements in British Columbia.
- Proficiency with legal software such as LEAP, Soluno, PC Law, NetDocuments, BC Online, Court Services Online, LTSA, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, or similar legal technology.
- Excellent organizational, communication, proofreading, and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while working independently in a fast-paced environment.
