Residents have significant physical disabilities (many wheelchair‐dependent, some ventilated or tube‐fed) with complex medical needs including spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and stroke. Some residents also experience co‐occurring mental health and substance use challenges.This role provides longitudinal primary care and episodic medical support in collaboration with embedded nursing staff who provide day‐to‐day monitoring and initiate clinical consultations.Time CommitmentTwo in‐person rounding sessions per week (typically Tuesday and Friday afternoons)Availability for consultation Monday–Friday, 9–5Virtual care and care coordination as neededPhysician Scope / ActivitiesAct as MRP for approximately 44 residents.Provide primary care support for common clinical issues including:Pressure injuries and wound careUTIs (many residents have neurogenic bladder and catheterization)Respiratory infections in ventilated patientsNeurogenic bowel / constipation managementMedication management for agitation or behavioural symptomsOther activities include:Responding to nursing consultations (virtual or in person)Coordinating care with specialists and community teamsMedication management and care planningSupporting hospital transitions when neededJoining the call pool and being on call once every 4 weeksTypical communication pathways:Emergent issue – phone callUrgent (same day) – textSemi‐urgent (2–3 days) – emailRoutine – physician communication binderRequirementsMD with current licensure in British ColumbiaExperience in primary care, complex care, disability medicine, or outreach medicineComfort working with medically complex patients in supported housing environmentsCommitment to patient‐centered care and harm reduction principlesQualificationsAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – DesiredCurrent College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) – FullCanadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP) – MandatoryCanadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – MandatoryAs per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly‐funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.
