Job SummaryJob Title:Psychiatrist, Vancouver Acute Home-Based Treatment (AHBT)Work Site:Woodward Building / Vancouver CommunityStatus:Part TimeStart Date:To be mutually agreed uponCompensation Type:CombinationCome work as a Psychiatrist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!Acute Home-Based Treatment is a new citywide program for clients with acute mental health needs who can safely be managed in their home or housing site with intensive outreach and active medical management. The physician will be part of a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, nursing, care coordinators and a family physician or nurse practitioner.Psychiatrists play a critical role in collaborating with community health and acute hospital services to address the ongoing needs of clients and their families in the service continuum, and to ensure a smooth transition from acute care to appropriate community health services. This entails engagement with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve excellence in client and family centered care, including psychiatric assessment, minor medical assessment, medication management, and providing expertise on behavioural management to the allied staff.This position requires a commitment of at least 2 half days of clinical psychiatry work per week.QualificationsEducation, Licensing, & Experience:Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – MandatoryCurrent College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) – EligibleFellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)



– EligibleAll VCH physicians must be appointed as medical staff of Vancouver Coastal Health.A clinical faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine is highly encouraged as resident supervision and involvement in education initiatives is an expectation.Experience in a community mental health setting preferably working with marginalized populations.Experience in caring for and treating severe mental illness, addiction, concurrent disorders, and personality disorders.Completion of or willingness to complete the BCCSU Provincial Opioid Addiction Treatment Support Program course.A demonstrated ability to work as a member of an inter‐professional health care team.A demonstrated commitment to on‐going learning and professional development.Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the following areas:Awareness of and sensitivity to diverse cultural beliefs and practices.Uses superior communication skills to develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Applies superior conflict resolution skills and expertise to persuade and negotiate effectively in the development,



management and evaluation of service delivery interrelationships and service potential within a complex environment.Applies systems and critical thinking in identifying issues and solving problems and implementing effective strategies and processes in addressing and resolving issues.Monitors the efficiency and provision of safe care of the program to meet the goals and maintain the objectives of the program and organization.Engages in quality improvement priorities identified by medical and operational leadership in collaboration with physicians.Facilitates education and research in collaboration with academic partners and operational management.All health care workers working in publicly‐funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for the offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
