The Business Development and Commercialization Principal will advance UHN's research commercialization objectives by driving efficient execution and timely turnaround of licensing, sponsored research and other research‐related agreements across the assigned portfolio, primarily within Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.This dynamic, commercially minded professional will manage complex stakeholder relationships in fast‐paced research and industry environments, support revenue‐generation activities, and lead negotiations for licensing and sponsored research agreements.DutiesProactively engage researchers to translate research activities into executable licensing and sponsored research opportunities.Drive deal flow and contract execution,
ensuring timely negotiation and completion of agreements.Support and lead opportunities for UHN commercialization funds and external ecosystem funding.Own the assigned portfolio's contracting activities, leading negotiation and turnaround of sponsored research, licensing and related agreements, including confidentiality and service agreements.Coordinate internal stakeholders to reduce cycle times and remove bottlenecks in contract approvals.Work closely with Licensing & Commercialization, IP Management, Marketing, Operations, Research Legal and the UHN Foundation to align contracts with institutional policies while enabling rapid deal execution.QualificationsMinimum of 10 years relevant business experience or equivalent.Master's degree in oncology, immuno‐oncology or related field, preferably with a translational research or commercialization specialization; PhD and/or MBA highly preferred.Demonstrated expertise in clinical and translational research environments with strong knowledge of clinical oncology.Experience negotiating and completing research support, licensing and/or partnership deals.Solid knowledge of licensing practice and capacity to evaluate detailed legal agreements.Experience in pharmaceutical or biotech business development, technology transfer, venture capital or related environment.Good knowledge of patent practice.Experience launching and leading startup biotech companies is an asset.Knowledge of internet patent and other database searches desirable.Ability to multi‐task, prioritize and work under pressure with tight deadlines.Self‐starter with a track record of initiative.Comfort communicating to a range of stakeholders from researchers to CEOs, from a business and science perspective.BenefitsCompetitive offer packagesClose access to transit and UHN shuttle serviceFlexible work environmentOpportunities for development and promotions within a large organizationAdditional perks (corporate discounts on travel, restaurants, parking, phone plans, auto insurance, on‐site gyms, etc.)UHN is an equal‐opportunity employer committed to an inclusive recruitment process and workplace.
