What you'll do
- Lead and mentor a team of structural engineers and support staff, fostering a collaborative and cutting-edge work environment.
- Oversee the planning, design, and execution of structural engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive project plans and specifications.
- Conduct structural analysis and design using advanced engineering software and tools, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all calculations.
- Manage project budgets and timelines, providing regular updates to senior management and clients on project status and deliverables.
- Review and approve engineering designs, calculations, and documentation, ensuring adherence to quality assurance protocols.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with structural projects, implementing effective solutions to address challenges as they arise.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in structural engineering, incorporating new knowledge into project work.
- Participate in business development activities,
including client meetings and proposal writing, to secure new projects and expand the firm’s portfolio.
- Ensure that all engineering work aligns with Gemtec's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
- Facilitate training and professional development opportunities for team members, promoting continuous learning and skill enhancement.
- Prepare and present technical reports and presentations to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies as needed.
Requirements
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, with a focus on structural engineering.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in structural engineering, with a proven track record in project management.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or eligibility for registration in New Brunswick.
- Strong knowledge of structural design principles, materials, and construction methods.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, ETABS, or similar tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in preparing and reviewing technical documentation, including reports and specifications.
- Familiarity with relevant building codes and regulations in Canada.
- A commitment to safety and quality assurance in all engineering practices.
Nice to have
- Experience in leading large-scale infrastructure projects or complex structural designs.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and green building certifications.
- Familiarity with project management software such as MS Project or Primavera.
- Previous experience in business development or client relationship management.
