The Shift Boss directs and coordinates the activities and tasks of the work crew, ensuring that all necessary resources are available, and that each member of the crew is working safely.GeneralResponsibilitiesCarry out all directives of management. Read and sign all log books dailyEnsure all employees have the knowledge to work safely and efficiently by giving all employees job specific instructions on a daily basis and monitor progressAssist in work scheduling and planning. Be aware of any changes of conditions in the workplaceEnsure all equipment is in good repair,
have broken equipment scheduled for repair and make equipment available to mechanics when it is scheduled for preventative maintenanceFill out all progress reports or accident/incident reports that happen during their shiftEnsure that all employees are properly trained to operate the equipment they will be using. If not, they will train them or arrange for trainingEnsure employee safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, as well as company policy and regulationsConduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production concernsRecord in the shift log book any unsafe conditions or equipment requiring repairsUnderstand, promote and operate by overall company vision and values, goals, objectives and strategiesCommunicate routinely and effectively with the Mine Manager and other supervisory personnel as requiredMust be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties safely and efficientlyMust be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damageThe duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusiveHealth And SafetyHaving the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and productive working environmentFollowing Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditionsAbility to participate and complete incident / accident investigations and take corrective action to prevent injury and / or re-occurrenceResponsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipmentEnsure that workers are qualified and capable of performing the assigned work safelyMust have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheetWork in accordance with local legislationQualificationsEducation:High School diploma or equivalentPost-Secondary education in a mining related discipline or equivalent experienceWork Experience:Minimum of 10 years hard rock experience with 5 years at the Supervisory levelSpecific Requirements:Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic (or another provincial equivalent)Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Front Line Supervisor (or another provincial equivalent)First AidKnowledge Required:Familiar with Occupational Health & Safety and Mines RegulationsAbility to lead through exampleRequires strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skillsRequires basic computer skillsWorking knowledge of all production equipmentAbility to multi task and work effectivelyAbility to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently #J-18808-Ljbffr
