ASSISTANT CONTROLLER - Full-Time (40 hrs/week)

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Assistant Controller supports the Vice President of Finance by managing day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong internal controls. This role plays a critical hands-on function within the Finance team, translating enterprise financial strategy into disciplined execution across accounting processes.

LOCATION
This position operates on a hybrid work model within an office workplace. The incumbent may be required to report to our Headquarters, located at The Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as directed.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Vice President of Finance
Key Relationships: Finance department, cross-functional teams
Direct Reports: Yes
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established controls and accounting guidance
- Manage daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
- Manage Retail Sales tax submissions and compliance
- Manage the duty drawback process to submit for duty recoveries
- Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations,
and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting
- Prepare and review other regular and ad hoc reporting, including weekly Flash and Cashflow forecast
- Support the Vice President of Finance in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and documentation to strengthen consistency and control
- Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and coordination with auditors
- Monitor internal controls and support risk mitigation efforts related to financial reporting and accounting operations
- Support ERP and financial system integrity, including user controls, data accuracy, and process adherence
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, ensuring workload balance, skill development, and performance accountability

- Advanced knowledge of concepts, principles, methods and practices related to financial operations including, but not limited to budgeting, storing, tracking, controlling, analyzing, and reporting on financial transactions.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE
Professional Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of direct, progressive experience working in a finance accounting role is required
- Experience leading or supervising accounting employees is preferred
- Experience with ERP systems and QuickBooks software is preferred
Educational Requirements:
- Post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business is required
- CPA designation or equivalent (completed or in progress) is required
- A combination of education and experience may be considered
