Location: Mississauga, Ontario Engagement: Full-time What you will do
Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site assessments, soil sampling, and laboratory testing to determine soil properties and behavior. Analyze geotechnical data to develop recommendations for foundation design, slope stability, and earth retention systems. Prepare detailed geotechnical reports that communicate findings, analyses, and recommendations to clients and stakeholders. Collaborate with project managers and other engineers to ensure geotechnical considerations are integrated into overall project designs. Utilize geotechnical software and tools to model subsurface conditions and predict performance under various loading scenarios. Participate in fieldwork, including site inspections and monitoring, to ensure compliance with geotechnical specifications and standards. Liaise with clients, contractors,
and regulatory agencies to address geotechnical concerns and provide technical support throughout project lifecycles. Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and advancements in geotechnical engineering to enhance service delivery and innovation. Mentor junior engineers and interns, providing guidance and support in their professional development. Assist in the preparation of proposals and bids for new projects, showcasing Gemtec's expertise and capabilities. Contribute to the development and implementation of quality assurance and quality control procedures within the geotechnical division. Participate in safety training and adhere to all safety protocols while conducting fieldwork and site visits. Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in a consulting environment. Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software, such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar tools. Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation design, and geotechnical investigation techniques. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed. Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation or eligibility for registration in Ontario is preferred. Nice to have
Experience with advanced geotechnical testing methods, such as in-situ testing and instrumentation. Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices in geotechnical engineering. Knowledge of construction methods and practices related to geotechnical projects. Previous experience in project management or leading small teams is an asset. Skills & tools
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word, for data analysis and report writing. Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software for drafting geotechnical plans and details. Ability to interpret geophysical data and integrate findings into geotechnical assessments. Practical notes
This position is based in Mississauga, Ontario, and may require occasional travel to project sites across the region.
