About the Opportunity

Willis College is seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the research, review, and development of a new Wind Turbine Technician Diploma Program.

This fixed-term contract is ideal for an experienced wind industry professional with extensive hands-on experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or supervising utility-scale wind turbines who is interested in helping shape the next generation of Wind Turbine Technicians.

The successful candidate will collaborate with our Research & Development team to ensure the curriculum reflects current industry practices, Ministry expectations, employer needs, and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

* Review and validate the proposed program curriculum.
* Provide subject matter expertise throughout the curriculum development process.
* Ensure course content reflects current Canadian industry standards, legislation, and best practices.
* Recommend practical skills, equipment, software, certifications, and learning resources relevant to entry-level Wind Turbine Technicians.
* Identify current and emerging trends within the wind energy industry.
* Participate in virtual meetings with the Research & Development team.
* Review course learning outcomes, assessments, laboratory activities, and practicum expectations.
* Provide recommendations to support Ministry approval requirements.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

* A minimum of 3 years of recent, hands-on experience as a Wind Turbine Technician or in a senior technical or supervisory role within the wind energy industry.
* Extensive experience with the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, or commissioning of utility-scale wind turbines.
* Experience working with one or more major wind turbine manufacturers (e.g., Vestas, Siemens Gamesa,



GE Vernova, Nordex, Enercon, Goldwind, or equivalent).
* Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, PLC, SCADA, and control systems used in modern wind turbines.
* Thorough understanding of preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, safety procedures, and applicable industry regulations.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Previous experience training, mentoring, instructing, or developing technicians is considered a strong asset.

Preferred Certifications

Preference will be given to candidates holding one or more of the following:

* GWO (Global Wind Organisation) Basic Safety Training
* Working at Heights
* Confined Space Entry
* Rescue Training
* Lockout/Tagout
* Electrical Safety / Arc Flash
* First Aid & CPR
* Relevant trade certification or diploma/degree in Wind Energy, Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline

Contract Details

* Fixed-term contract
* Remote work
* Flexible schedule with work completed independently within established project timelines.
* Contract compensation: $1,500–$2,500 CAD, based on the scope of work and experience.
* Payment will be issued upon successful completion of all contract deliverables and acceptance of the final work.
