As our Vice President of Health, Safety and Training, you'll set the vision for safety, training, and compliance across our busing operations in Canada, ensuring every passenger arrives safely and every employee is supported to do their best work.Student Transportation of America (STA) is looking for an experienced safety professional to become our next safety leader. Reporting directly to the President, Student Transportation, this role will be responsible for coordinating and managing all areas of health, safety, risk management, driver training and compliance across STA's Canadian operations (6 provinces and 1 territory).This is a very hands‐on position that requires a high degree of flexibility to manage the different functional areas. Regular travel throughout Canada is required.This successful candidate could be based in the Greater Toronto Area, Edmonton or Calgary.Duties/ResponsibilitiesMonitor the safe operation of over 5,000 buses across two service lines throughout STA's Canadian operationsManage a team of Safety and Training employeesAnalyze training to employees to reduce the risk of accidents and claimsLead and support the company's Leadership Safety CouncilOrganize the start‐up of the current locations by ensuring that employee health and safety activities are stagedEnsure activities of the department are compliant with current laws and regulationsEnsure compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety regulations (OHS, AODA, MTO, MOH, ESA, HRC, NSC)Act as representative in proposing solutions to reduce accident costsEnsure the implementation of health, safety and environmental programs,



policies and procedures that adhere to corporate specifications to sustain and support a culture of safety, reducing incidents, and maintaining operational productivityWork in partnership with leaders to promote a safety cultureDevelop health and safety goals for the company ensuring they meet all fiscal, strategic, and legislative requirementsDevelop annual operating, planning and corporate governance processes, including audits, compliance initiatives, government reporting, and identification of best practice initiativesEstablish key metrics that drive the effectiveness of the Health and Safety program across CanadaOversee activities throughout STA's Canadian operations to ensure their continued effectiveness in the overall safety programContinual communication of health and safety information to all levels within the company through memos, meetings, e‐mail/text correspondence, social media etc.Responsible for company's overall COR complianceIn partnership with Operations, conduct regular audits for all divisions throughout the year to ensure they are compliant with regulatory and corporate requirementsEnsure incident and collision reporting is complete and reported in a timely fashion; establishes appropriatefollow-upAccountable for and oversee workplace injury management,



including development of return‐to‐work plans and appealsServe as internal subject matter expert and resource on all areas of safety and compliance, including regulation and best‐practicesSet the direction for the entire department, providing guidance and mentorship to the team, and taking responsibility for overall performanceContinually assess the safety knowledge within the various levels of the company, and making recommendations for training to address those gapsHelp increase STA's visibility within the community by participating in company sponsored eventsRequired Education, Skills and ExperienceCompletion of University or College education, Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalentIn‐depth knowledge of current legislation relating to Health & Safety in CanadaMinimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the Transportation industryExperience in the school bus industry an assetFamiliarity with the transportation industry requiredStrong background in root cause analysisComputer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and OutlookExceptional analytical problem solving and organizational abilitiesExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenConfidential and professional conduct as well as a mature & diplomatic mannerMust have or be able to upgrade to a commercial driver's licenseMust be willing to work a flexible schedule including travel throughout Canada on a regular basisStudent Transportation of America is proud to be an equal chance employer.
