Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site assessments and soil sampling, to evaluate subsurface conditions for various construction projects. Analyze soil and rock properties using laboratory tests and field data to determine their engineering characteristics. Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports that outline findings, provide recommendations for design and construction, and address potential risks associated with ground conditions. Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines to integrate geotechnical considerations into project designs. Develop and review geotechnical design calculations for foundations, retaining walls, and other earth structures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Provide technical support during construction, including monitoring site conditions and advising on geotechnical issues that may arise.
Participate in the preparation of proposals and bids for new projects, showcasing your expertise and contributing to business development efforts. Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in geotechnical engineering to enhance your skills and the services offered by Gemtec. Mentor junior engineers and interns, sharing your knowledge and experience to foster their professional growth. Attend project meetings and liaise with clients to ensure their needs are met and expectations are exceeded. Conduct risk assessments related to geotechnical aspects of projects and develop mitigation strategies to address potential challenges. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during fieldwork and promote a culture of safety within the team. Requirements
A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution. A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in a consulting setting. Proficiency in geotechnical software tools such as GeoStudio, PLAXIS, or similar programs for analysis and design. Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation design, and construction methods. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated and capable of managing individual tasks. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required. Nice to have
Skilled Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Ontario. Experience with environmental geotechnics or contaminated site assessments. Familiarity with Canadian geotechnical codes and standards. Knowledge of advanced geotechnical testing methods and technologies. Previous experience in project management or leading small teams. Skills & tools
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex geotechnical challenges. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting. Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software for drafting and visualization. Ability to interpret geological maps and data to inform engineering decisions. Competence in conducting fieldwork, including drilling supervision and in-situ testing. Practical notes
