About the role

Appian is seeking a highly skilled Principal Technical Consultant to join our Customer Success team based in Toronto, Canada. In this role, you will be responsible for working directly with clients after the sales process to design, develop, and implement customized software solutions on the Appian platform. Your primary focus will be to manage and oversee projects throughout their entire lifecycle, ensuring the delivery of tailored applications that meet client needs and facilitate digital transformation. You will play a key role in guiding clients through technical challenges, providing expert advice, and helping them leverage the full capabilities of the Appian platform, including AI tools and automation features. What you'll do

- Lead the end-to-end management of client projects, including requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.
- Collaborate closely with clients to understand their business processes, technical environments, and specific needs to develop effective, scalable applications on the Appian platform.
- Mentor and guide consultants and team members during rapid application development and implementation phases, fostering a collaborative environment that emphasizes best practices and continuous improvement.
- Engage in brainstorming sessions with clients and internal teams to identify innovative AI use cases, and implement Appian's AI tools, employing techniques like retrieval augmented generation and prompt engineering to enhance automation and decision-making processes.
- Work alongside clients' technical teams and business users to promote platform adoption, empower them to build their own process applications, and ensure successful user onboarding and training.
- Ensure project deliverables adhere to quality standards, timelines, and budget constraints, maintaining clear communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including developers, architects, and business analysts, to integrate solutions seamlessly with existing systems and infrastructure.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance during solution design, troubleshooting, and performance optimization to ensure robust and reliable applications.




- Support pre-sales activities by demonstrating platform capabilities, preparing technical proposals, and addressing client questions to facilitate successful sales conversions.
- Document project specifications, technical configurations, best practices, and lessons learned to support knowledge sharing and future projects.
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal technical documentation, training materials, and case studies to promote continuous learning within the organization.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and updates to the Appian platform to continually enhance your technical skills and advise clients effectively.

Requirements

- A minimum of 7 years of experience in software development, technical consulting, or related roles, with a proven track record of managing complex projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- Strong ability to work directly with clients to gather and analyze functional and technical requirements, translating them into effective solutions.
- Experience working within cross-functional teams, with a solid understanding of agile methodologies and project management practices.
- Basic knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts, relational database design, and SQL, including writing queries and data modeling.
- Familiarity with software testing practices, API integrations such as REST and SOAP, and experience working with cloud platforms like AWS.
- Knowledge of AI, analytics tools, and automation technologies is advantageous, especially in relation to applying AI techniques like retrieval augmented generation and prompt engineering.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality standards.

Nice to have

- Experience working with machine learning models and integrating AI-driven solutions into enterprise applications.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and Elastic Containers (ECS, EKS, or similar container orchestration tools).




- Prior exposure to ITAR compliance and security standards relevant to government or defense projects.
- Experience in developing and deploying automation solutions using Appian's AI tools or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, continuous integration, and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to streamline development workflows.

Skills & tools

- Proficiency in software development best practices, including test-driven development, automated testing, and code reviews.
- Experience with agile project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms.
- Solid interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
- Familiarity with cloud services, APIs, and integration techniques to connect various enterprise systems.
- Ability to document technical solutions clearly and comprehensively for future reference and knowledge sharing.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and stay updated with the latest trends in AI, automation, and cloud computing.

Practical notes

- Occasional travel may be required, up to 10% annually, to support client engagements and project implementations.
- The base salary range for this position is between $100,000 and $225,000 CAD, depending on experience and qualifications.
