What you'll do
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications plan that aligns with Uja's mission and objectives, ensuring consistency across all platforms and channels.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of engaging content, including press releases, newsletters, and social media posts, to promote Uja's initiatives and achievements.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to craft key messaging that resonates with diverse audiences, including stakeholders, donors, and the community.
- Manage media relations, including building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets to enhance Uja's visibility and reputation.
- Lead crisis communication efforts, preparing strategies and responses to mitigate potential risks to the organization's reputation.
- Conduct regular assessments of communication strategies and initiatives, using analytics and feedback to refine and improve our approach.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure that all communications reflect Uja's values and objectives, fostering a unified organizational voice.
- Organize and oversee events and campaigns that promote Uja's mission, ensuring effective communication and engagement with participants and stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to the communications team, fostering professional development and encouraging innovative thinking.
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in strategic communications, integrating new ideas and technologies into Uja's communication strategies.
- Prepare and manage the communications budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to achieve strategic goals.
- Engage with community members and stakeholders to gather insights and feedback, ensuring that Uja's communications are relevant and impactful.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or a related area, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication strategies that drive organizational goals.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for various audiences.
- Strong understanding of media relations and experience working with journalists and media outlets.
- Demonstrated ability to manage crisis communications effectively and maintain a positive organizational reputation.
- Experience in budget management and resource allocation for communication initiatives.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including social media, content management systems, and analytics tools.
- Strong leadership skills with a collaborative approach to team management and development.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with nonprofit sector communications and community engagement strategies.
- Experience in event planning and execution, particularly in a nonprofit context.
- Knowledge of graphic design and multimedia production tools to enhance communication materials.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is an asset.
