What Is The Opportunity?

Aecon Nuclear is undertaking efforts to replace key components at the Darlington and Bruce Power plants as part of each respective Life Extension Program to allow operation for another 40+ years. It is also at the forefront of the next generation of Nuclear Power in Canada by fabricating and constructing the first of a kind SMR facility in Darlington, along with other new build large‑scale reactors across North America and Europe.



This position is located in Aecon’s Cambridge office and reports to the Procurement Manager. The Jr. Purchasing Agent is responsible for negotiating and purchasing various commodities, equipment, and services for Aecon’s Cambridge and Brantford fabrication facilities.

What You’ll Do Here

- Negotiate and procure equipment, materials, and components, including nuclear safety related items such as plate, structural steel, pipe, tubing, fittings, valves, weld consumables, electrical components, and personal protective wear.
- Review purchase requisitions and documentation to ensure clarity, completeness, quality assurance compliance, proper authorization of funding, delivery requirements, and desired mode of transportation.
- Prepare and issue Request for Quotation (RFQ’s) to qualified vendors based on Aecon’s Approved Suppliers List (ASL).
- Negotiate or assist in negotiating best price, delivery terms, payment conditions, tax exemptions, price escalation, and other factors impacting supply.
- Work with Aecon Operations personnel and supporting regional offices to obtain required materials.
- Support estimating team with pricing at the client proposal stage.
- Ensure quality, reliability, and responsiveness to operational needs that meet or exceed organizational expectations.
- Manage logistics, including expediting critical site deliveries.




- Conduct market‑based research to develop new suppliers that add value to Aecon projects.
- Assist the Procurement Manager in developing and implementing detailed procurement strategies, including cost‑reduction strategies to meet organizational goals.
- Provide accountability to ensure our internal clients are serviced beyond normal business hours.
- Perform supplier and job site visits to assist the Quality Department.
- Continuously remain informed about new products and consumer trends.

What You Bring To The Team

- 2–5 years of experience in the Construction Industry in a procurement or project coordinator role.
- Completion of a Materials and Operations Management Program at the college or university level is an asset.
- Enrollment in or completion of the National Institute of Supply Chain Leadership’s Accreditation Program is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of commodity procurement—civil, electrical, mechanical, consumables, tooling, and personal protective equipment.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities.
- Solid interpersonal skills.
- Customer‑service orientation.
- Excellent planning, decision‑making, negotiation, and time‑management skills.
- Knowledge of the SAP planning system is an asset.
