About the role
Jumio is on the lookout for a Senior or Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join their team, with a primary focus on computer vision and biometric technologies. In this role, you will take charge of developing and scaling advanced face recognition systems, overseeing the entire process from model training to deployment in a production environment on AWS. Your official title will be determined based on your performance during the interview process.

What you'll do
- Design and implement cutting-edge computer vision systems tailored for biometric applications, including tasks such as detection, quality assessment, and face recognition.
- Perform comprehensive fairness benchmarking and analysis across various datasets to ensure that the models are equitable and unbiased.
- Architect, train, and enhance machine learning models utilizing frameworks such as JAX, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Manage the complete machine learning pipeline, which includes data cleaning and ingestion processes, utilizing tools like Airflow.
- Create balanced training datasets and generate synthetic data to meet diversity and quality standards.
- Optimize models for low-latency inference by employing techniques such as distillation, quantization, and utilizing frameworks like ONNX or TensorRT.
- Supervise the deployment of models on AWS and provide guidance and mentorship to fellow engineers, ensuring adherence to technical standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate machine learning solutions into broader business objectives and product offerings.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in machine learning and computer vision to continuously improve the systems and processes.
- Document processes, methodologies, and findings to contribute to the knowledge base of the team.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the development of best practices within the team.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the field of Machine Learning.
- At least 3 years of focused experience in Face Analysis or Biometrics.
- Strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with vision libraries such as OpenCV, Pillow, and PyTorch.
- Experience in designing and managing end-to-end machine learning pipeline architectures, as well as workflow orchestration tools like Airflow.
- Practical understanding of how to measure and mitigate algorithmic bias in the context of computer vision applications.
- Proven hands‑on experience in scaling training processes on multi‑GPU clusters and deploying solutions using AWS services such as EKS, EC2, and SageMaker.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Nice to have
- Publications in reputable conferences such as ICCV, CVPR, ECCV, or FG, showcasing your contributions to the field.
- Familiarity with approximate nearest neighbor algorithms and vector databases like Faiss or Milvus.
- Knowledge of security, privacy, and compliance standards relevant to biometric technologies.
- Experience in adapting models for mobile or edge devices using frameworks like TFLite, LiteRT, or CoreML.
- Background in utilizing diffusion models or Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) for synthetic data generation.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in Python, with extensive experience in frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and JAX.
- Familiar with AWS services, including SageMaker, EKS, and EC2.
- Experienced in using Airflow for workflow management.
- Knowledgeable in image processing libraries like OpenCV and Pillow.
- Proficient in optimization techniques using TensorRT and ONNX.
- Familiar with model optimization strategies including quantization and distillation.
