Department: EducationLocation: Port Hardy Secondary SchoolPosition Type: ContractHours: 30 hours per weekWage: $35.61 per hourReports To: School Principal and First Nations District PrincipalPosition SummaryThe First Nation Support Worker provides academic and cultural support to students at Port Hardy Secondary School. Working collaboratively with teachers and school staff, the successful candidate will assist students in achieving academic success while promoting an inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive learning setting.This position requires the ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the educational program for all students.Assist students individually and in small groups with classroom learning and assignments.Monitor student progress and provide ongoing academic support.Work collaboratively with school staff to support student transitions from elementary school or Eke Me-Xi Learning Centre to Port Hardy Secondary School.Maintain accurate student records, including First Nations Program data collection.Participate as a member of the First Nations Program Team,
including initiatives under the Indigenous Education Enhancement Agreement.Collaborate with teachers and school staff to support student success.Perform other related duties as assigned.QualificationsSecondary school graduation (Dogwood Certificate or equivalent).Minimum one year of post-secondary education in a related field such as First Nations Studies, Anthropology, English, Mathematics, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or a related discipline.Extensive knowledge of Kwakwaka'wakw culture and traditions.Ability to support secondary students in mathematics, language arts, science, and social studies.Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Ability to work independently while following the direction of teaching staff.Proficiency with computers and standard office software for record keeping and documentation.Two to three years of recent experience working with First Nations students is preferred.Additional RequirementsSuccessful completion of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.This position is subject to a three-month probationary period.Qualified Indigenous applicants are encouraged to apply.Application Deadline: Friday, August 21, 2026We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted. #J-18808-Ljbffr
