Senior EstimatorLocation: 100 Citigate Drive, Ottawa, ONVacancy Type: ReplacementR.W Tomlinson is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Estimator to join our team. In this leadership‐focused role, you will apply your deep infrastructure and estimating expertise to prepare competitive tenders, support project execution, and contribute to continuous improvement across our estimating processes. You will work closely with construction, project administration, accounting, and senior leadership to ensure accurate costing, effective communication, and strong client and subcontractor relationships. This position is ideal for a seasoned professional who brings technical excellence, strong analytical abilities, and a team-oriented, mentorship‐driven approach to supporting both project success and the development of junior staff.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESPrepares Cost Estimates for TendersObtains tender documentsAttends job showingsReviews site conditionsPerforms pre‐qualification tasks as requiredObtains bonding, insurance etc. for tender submissionsReviews and comprehends tender specifications and communicates with the tender consultant any questions or concernsCommunicates with sub‐contractors to obtain pricingPerforms quantity calculations for all tender itemsPerforms 2‐dimensional digital take‐offs using Planswift and/or Bluebeam, as well as 3‐dimensional take‐offs using InSite or Trimble Business CenterReviews and interprets contract documents with a strong ability to identify, assess, and mitigate project risksPricing of items and jobs to be performed in a computerized estimation programFills out pre‐tender forms for tender tracking, fill out tender documents, delivery of tender documents,
follow‐up and provide tender resultsReviews tender submissions with the appropriate managerLiaises with Customers, Sub‐contractors and Consulting Engineers to Build Personal Relationships and Promotes the Positive Qualities and Benefits of RWTAttends industry related functions to build relationships and networksCommunicates with engineers through budget pricing etc. to build a relationship and to establish a positive, inviting cultureMonitors job posting sites, newspapers, engineering firms etc. for tendering opportunitiesInternally Communicates to Construction, Project Administration and Accounting Contract Specification and Costing DetailsIssues job transmittals to construction, contract administration and accountingIssues sub‐contractsMeets with job superintendent to provide and communicate relevant job informationProvides Project Management Support for ContractsNegotiates additional work prices for on‐going contractsApproves sub‐contract paymentsApproves contract billingsProvides scope of work clarification to constructionAttends job meetings as requiredIssues and circulates job change ordersReviews Job Costs from Previous and On‐going Jobs to Provide Production Rate Analysis for Construction And Future BidsReviews on‐going and completed contracts to look for un‐invoiced workReviews actual production rates to establish a data baseReviews actual job costs and production rates to more accurately estimate future bidsMonitors and updates computerized estimation database to reflect current costs and contract informationWork Towards Achieving More Advanced TrainingAttends training sessions to continue personal developmentIdentifies training opportunities and communicate to your managerWorks with senior staff to develop skillsWorks with estimation to share and enhance individual knowledge and skillsREQUIREMENTSCertified Engineering Technologist designation or equivalent experience is required15+ years Infrastructure field experience and estimationExperience leading or mentoring junior staffAbility to provide constructive feedback to peersHigh proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Estimation software systemsWORKING CONDITIONSStandard office environment. May be required to work occasional weekends or evenings.COMPENSATION INFORMATIONThe expected salary range for this position is $110,000-$160,000.
