What you'll do
- Design and develop mechanical components and systems for custom electronic enclosures, ensuring they meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams to create comprehensive design solutions that address customer needs.
- Conduct thorough analyses and simulations to validate designs, using tools such as CAD software and finite element analysis (FEA).
- Participate in prototype development, testing, and iteration processes to refine designs based on performance feedback.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including specifications, assembly instructions, and maintenance guidelines for manufactured products.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas for design optimization and implementing best practices in engineering processes.
- Support the manufacturing team during the production phase,
providing technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance as needed.
- Stay updated with industry trends, materials, and technologies to ensure Protocase remains at the forefront of innovation in mechanical design.
- Mentor junior engineers and interns, sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
- Participate in project planning and management, ensuring that timelines and budgets are adhered to while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Conduct regular reviews of existing designs to identify opportunities for enhancements or cost reductions.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their requirements and provide technical insights throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the electronics or manufacturing sector.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD for creating detailed design models and drawings.
- Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to mechanical engineering.
- Experience with FEA and other simulation tools to analyze and validate design performance.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
- Strong communication skills,
both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail.
- A proactive attitude towards learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies.
Nice to have
- Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and technologies, such as 3D printing.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to mechanical design and product safety.
- Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and their application in product design.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced, customer-focused engineering environment.
- Certification as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or equivalent is a plus.
