Join our Electrical Engineering team and help shape the next generation of vessels for the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Coast Guard. As an Electrical Engineer at Irving Shipbuilding, you’ll contribute to complex, world-class marine programs - gaining hands-on experience while working alongside a team of talented and experienced engineers.
From concept to delivery, you’ll play a key role in delivering mission-critical ships that serve and protect Canada.
Responsibilities
Support major shipbuilding programs, including the River-class Destroyer and the Canadian Coast Guard variant of the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS)
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide technical oversight and engineering expertise
Assist in the development of electrical designs, technical specifications, and deliverables
Review engineering documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements, classification rules, and shipyard standards
Support the procurement of electrical equipment and systems
Contribute to the planning and execution of testing and commissioning activities
Participate in engineering change management throughout the design and construction lifecycle
Identify, track, and help mitigate technical risks
Communicate effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders
Qualifications
Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Registered or eligible for registration as a Skilled Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers Nova Scotia
1–10 years of relevant experience in engineering or a related field
Working knowledge of integrated electrical systems
Familiarity with industry standards and project management practices
Robust communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
