Home Instead is seeking an experienced, attentive, and engaging Care Professional to provide dedicated in-home support to an adult living with quadriplegia.

This is more than a task-focused caregiving position. It is an prospect to develop a trusted, long-term working relationship and help the client experience greater independence, dignity, connection, and quality of life.

The right candidate will be dependable, motivated, and confident working independently. You will know how to balance being attentive and proactive with respecting the client's privacy, preferences, and personal choices. You will notice subtle changes, anticipate needs, adapt to the moment, and take initiative while respecting the client's right to direct their own life and care.

Experience supporting someone with a spinal cord injury is a strong asset. Client-specific and in-home training will be provided as needed.

Consistent Shifts Available

We are building a reliable care team to provide support seven days a week. Available shifts include:

• Day shifts: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

• Evening shifts: 4:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m.

• Overnight shifts: 10:30 p.m.-8:30 a.m.

This position is well suited to someone looking for consistent hours and the opportunity to make a lasting difference through dependable, relationship-based care. Applicants do not need to be available for every shift, but consistent availability and a long-term commitment are important.

How You Will Support the Client

Following the client's individualized care plan and established routines, you may:

• Provide respectful personal care while protecting the client's privacy, dignity, and independence





• Use an overhead lift and other mobility or transfer equipment safely

• Assist with positioning, repositioning, and pressure-injury prevention

• Support established bowel, bladder, skin-care, and other personal-care routines within your training and authorized responsibilities

• Assist with medication administration according to the care plan, your training, and Home Instead's policies

• Observe and promptly report changes in the client's skin integrity, comfort, physical condition, mood, behaviour, or usual routine

• Recognize potential concerns associated with spinal cord injuries and respond according to the care plan and escalation procedures

• Prepare enjoyable, nutritious meals based on the client's preferences and dietary needs

• Provide transportation and accompany the client to appointments, errands, social activities, and community events

• Encourage participation in activities, routines, and goals that support motivation, independence, and overall well-being

• Provide engaging companionship while also recognizing when the client needs privacy or quiet time

• Complete laundry, light housekeeping, and household tasks that maintain a clean, organized, and comfortable home

• Keep accurate care notes and communicate relevant observations to the Home Instead team

• Respond calmly and effectively when routines, needs, or circumstances change

You may be a strong fit if you:

• Have previous professional experience providing personal, disability, complex, or home-based care

• Have experience supporting an individual with quadriplegia or another spinal cord injury, or are eager and able to learn

• Are observant and able to recognize subtle changes that may require attention





• Demonstrate practical judgment and can anticipate needs before concerns develop

• Can read the situation and understand when to engage, motivate, assist, step back, or give the client privacy

• Are self-directed, organized, and able to manage routines without constant supervision

• Take initiative while respecting the client's preferences, boundaries, and right to direct their own care

• Are outgoing and enjoy supporting an active, community-connected lifestyle

• Are a capable cook who can plan and prepare appealing meals

• Are reliable, punctual, and committed to being part of a consistent care team

• Communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally

• Remain calm, attentive, and solutions-focused in changing situations

• Are interested in developing a trusted, long-term relationship with the client and care team

Experience with behavioural support or positive behaviour-management approaches is an asset.

Requirements Upon Hiring

Successful candidates must provide:

• Valid CPR and First Aid certification

• A completed TB skin test with acceptable results

• A satisfactory criminal record check, including a vulnerable-sector check

• Fluency in spoken and written English

• A valid driver's licence

• A reliable vehicle and current automobile insurance

• Proof of relevant care education or training, if applicable

Candidates must also be physically capable of performing the responsibilities of the position safely, including using an overhead lift and assisting with the client's established care routines.
