Recreation Worker – Responsibilities
Plan, develop, and run a variety of recreation and leisure activities that promote wellbeing, purpose, creativity, community, lifelong learning, and fun.
Facilitate both planned and spontaneous opportunities to support resident skill development and the formation of relationships.
Assist in developing, planning, and implementing daily recreation activities in the home and in the community using holistic resident information and preferences.
Create and maintain engaging spaces/environments in the home that support meaningful activity and participation.
Maintain valuable communication with residents, families, friends, volunteers, community groups, and agencies.
Observe, report, and document any changes in a resident’s ability to participate in activities, updating the plan of care as appropriate.
Support all departments in fostering resident engagement in meaningful ways.
Model and lead programs to maximize residents’ skills and abilities.
Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the recreation program and related quality‑improvement processes.
Qualifications
Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long‑term care setting.
Graduate of a post‑secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or a related field.
Or a post‑secondary degree or diploma in a health‑care related field with demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience providing recreation and leisure services in a health‑care setting, including:
Planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities across all domains of wellness for individuals of varying levels of functioning.
Assessment, care planning, and related documentation.
Therapeutic programming techniques and approaches.
Application of recreation and leisure principles and practices, and implementation in a long‑term care or health‑care setting.
Supporting others to foster a culture of resident engagement.
Salary and Advantages
Hourly rate: $23.54 – $24.25, based on qualifications and experience. The position is open and fully inclusive; Canadian work experience is not required. Applications are reviewed manually by the AgeCare team without the use of artificial intelligence.
