Sr. Field Techs - MV Cable Termination/Splicer are expected to perform installations, splicing, termination service, testing and maintenance of various types of power transmission and distribution equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Test and inspect low and medium voltage and high voltage (69 KV and above) cable installations, terminations, and splicing on various OEM cables.

Experience with live front stress cones, 600‑amp dead breaks, 200‑amp load breaks, inline splices, 2‑way dead break splices, Pfisterer Connex high voltages (35 KV and above) preferred.

Cable fault locating and repair preferred.

Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start‑up and collect data of low, medium, and/or high voltage (up to 500 kV) electrical systems.

Low, Medium and/or High voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.

Perform inspection, maintenance, testing and repair of transformers, circuit breakers and all related equipment ranging from 45 KVA to 130 MVA, dry type and/or oil filled.

Perform maintenance, testing, reconditioning and repair on circuit breakers – low voltage 480 V (molded case and air‑magnetic), medium voltage up to 15 KV (air‑magnetic and vacuum).

Experience with SF6‑filled equipment and gas‑insulated switchgear desired but not required.

Experience operating high voltage test equipment including Doble Power Factor test sets.

Perform start‑up, troubleshooting and repair services on controls and transfer schemes.

Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner when called.

All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance with regulatory laws.

Other duties as assigned by manager.

Required Experience and Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and at least 5 years of experience in a related field.

Strong background in medium voltage cable termination, splicing, and installations.

Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and industry standards such as NETA, OSHA, IEEE, NFPA, and NEC.





Experience with medium and high voltage equipment (69 KV and above).

Familiarity with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, start‑up on switchgear up to 500 kV, and training from military electrical power programs.

Able to complete projects consistently on budget and within reasonable time.

Ability to complete on‑site job reports.

Works effectively with customers, peers, and management to resolve client issues.

Strong computer skills with knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office; uses Internet for standards and product research.

Valid driver’s license required for positions utilizing a company vehicle.

Valid passport considered an asset.

Performs testing and service work and can mentor technicians as directed by Supervisor/Manager.

Responsible for performance and management of routine and moderately complex tasks and projects, record keeping, evaluation of test data, and ensuring safety of others.

Can provide guidance and perform electrical power switching.

Must work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.

Good theoretical understanding of electricity and aptitude for problem solving.

Effectively communicates verbally and in writing with customers and peers.

Dependable and responsible with positive judgment and organizational skills.

Good customer service, time management and follow‑up skills.

Additional Information

Job: Full‑Time

Location: Edmonton, AB

Travel: Up to 75% travel, some in the United States.

Relocation: Relocation assistance is available for highly qualified candidates.

Physical Demands: Lifting a maximum of 50 lbs without assistance or lifting aid, crawling, climbing, standing for long periods and working in non‑ideal conditions.
