Summary Hecla Keno Hill is seeking an Underground Mine Trainer to lead hands‑on training of underground lateral development and production miners. This position is responsible for the curriculum, delivery and certification of miners operating in a narrow‑vein hard‑rock mining environment. The Trainer ensures that our “Safety 365” values are integrated into the entire mining cycle (drill, blast, muck, bolt, and backfill).
The Keno Hill mine is located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory, about 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Position Responsibilities Lead a mining crew and perform mining tasks associated with narrow‑vein mining (drill, load/blast, muck, bolt, backfill, etc.).
Provide on‑the‑job training, safety training, perform job observations and review safe work practices with trainees and other mine employees.
Train and develop employees to improve their capabilities, preparing them for promotion opportunities, especially for lateral drift mining; focus on jackleg and CMAC bolting.
Complete daily paperwork, including pass‑downs and training record keeping.
Ensure employees have needed tools, equipment, supplies, guidance, and support.
Help create and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Promote a strong environmental culture and a strong safety culture by teaching and exemplifying best practices.
Collaborate with operators, geologists, shifters, trainers, and maintenance.
Departmental Responsibilities Ensure production efficiencies by working with mine supervisors, superintendents, and stakeholders to meet short‑term and long‑term underground production and development targets.
Maintain a self‑motivated, independent work ethic and collaborate effectively with operators, geologists, shifters, trainers, and maintenance.




Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent.
5+ years of underground mining experience, including operation of single boom jumbos, CMAC bolters, jack legs/stopers, scissor decks, and muckers.
Experience with “train the trainer” and a willingness to train others.
Experience with narrow‑vein cut‑and‑fill mining in a rapid‑paced production setting.
Yukon Permanent First Line Supervisor Certificate or ability to obtain.
Yukon Blasting certificate or ability to obtain.
Mine rescue certification highly regarded.
Pre‑Employment Requirements Pre‑employment testing: drug & alcohol, blood lead, audiogram.
Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
Clean driver’s abstract.
Criminal record clearance.

Work Environment Employees will be regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including snow and ice, and extreme temperatures ranging from cold to warm. The work environment may involve contact with potentially hazardous wildlife, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the use of explosives. There is also a risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration. Noise levels can occasionally be loud, depending on the task or location on site.
Work Location & Schedule This is a fly‑in, fly‑out position based at the Hecla Keno Hill mine site, located 4 km northeast of Keno City, Yukon Y0B 1J0. The schedule is a 14‑day on, 14‑day off rotation with 12‑hour shifts rotating days and nights (average of 42 hours per week). Camp accommodations and meals are provided while on site. All travel to and from the mine site is arranged through a designated travel agency and coordinated from approved flight hubs. Candidates should reside in the Yukon, British Columbia, or Alberta, particularly near major transportation centres.
Compensation & Benefits This position is eligible for an hourly bonus of up to $40 per hour.
