Technical Marketing Engineer - Photonics at Arista Networks
About the role In this position, you will be an integral part of our Hardware Product Management team, collaborating with Sales and Systems Engineering to establish product deployment scenarios and architectures. Your responsibilities will include guiding the Engineering Test and Validation team while developing and maintaining various technical documentation and proof of concept infrastructure for high-performance optical interconnect systems.

What you’ll do Collaborate with Sales Engineering to define and document use cases for optical interconnect and switch/router families, focusing on deployment configurations.
Develop tools for deployment rules and optical configurations, ensuring compatibility across various DWDM technologies.
Maintain comprehensive documentation for Data Center, ML/AI, and deployment scenarios involving Arista products.
Create online tools for validating configurations across different generations of switches and routers.
Partner with Product Line Management and engineering to establish configurations for technical conferences and support logistics for demonstrations.
Write and maintain Python scripts for automating test processes, managing lab instruments, and logging results efficiently.
Conduct hands‑on optical and electrical tests using instruments such as BERTs, power meters, and oscilloscopes, validating DWDM systems.
Analyze test data to identify trends and improve product reliability, while assisting in the creation of internal resources like test procedures and troubleshooting guides.
Work closely with hardware, firmware, and operations teams to align testing systems with production objectives.




Requirements A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline is required; a PhD in photonics or an MBA is preferred.
At least 5 years of experience in Optical Networking and DWDM design and deployment is necessary.
Familiarity with DWDM signal propagation, simulation, and multi‑span amplified systems is advantageous.
Excellent writing and presentation skills to effectively communicate technical knowledge to Sales and Engineering teams.
Strong understanding of Ethernet, DWDM, and Coherent Optical Technologies.
Practical experience with optical testing equipment, including OTDR, OSA, BERT, and oscilloscopes, along with solid troubleshooting abilities.
Extensive background in using traffic generators and network protocol analysis tools, such as Wireshark, Ixia, or Spirent.
Previous experience in system testing, scripting (Python, TCL), and/or new product introduction is required.
Proven track record in testing Coherent and IMDD Transponders/Transceivers, Optical Amplifiers, and other optical system components.
Knowledge of performance monitoring parameters like Pre‑FEC BER, OSNR, Chromatic Dispersion, and Polarization Mode Dispersion is essential.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with a willingness to ask questions and engage in team discussions.
A hands‑on approach and eagerness to learn new tools and technologies are crucial.




The base salary range for this position is 123,000-175,000 CAD.
Arista offers varying pay scales based on location to ensure competitive compensation aligned with market standards. The actual salary will depend on numerous factors, including skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and location. This range reflects base salary only; additional roles may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and equity. Sales roles may qualify for Arista's Sales Incentive Plan, which includes commissions based on eligible sales.
