About the role The Site Operations, Safety and Events Manager at Investottawabayviewyards plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of our facilities while prioritizing safety and enhancing the overall experience for visitors and staff. What you'll do Oversee the daily operations of the site, ensuring that all facilities are maintained to the highest standards of safety and functionality.
Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures to comply with local regulations and industry best practices, ensuring a secure environment for all stakeholders.
Coordinate and manage events hosted at the site, working closely with various teams to ensure successful execution from planning to post-event evaluations.
Collaborate with external vendors and partners to procure necessary services and supplies for events and site operations, negotiating contracts and managing budgets effectively.
Monitor and report on site performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, addressing any identified hazards promptly and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Train and supervise staff on safety protocols, operational procedures, and event management best practices, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
Serve as the primary point of contact for all site-related inquiries, providing exceptional customer service to visitors, clients, and stakeholders.
Develop and maintain relationships with local authorities and community organizations to promote site activities and enhance community engagement.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations for management, summarizing operational performance, safety compliance, and event outcomes.
Stay informed about industry trends and advancements in site operations and safety management, integrating relevant innovations into our practices.
Lead emergency response planning and drills, ensuring that all staff are prepared to act swiftly and effectively in case of an incident.
Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Safety Management, Event Management, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in site operations, safety management, or event coordination, preferably in a similar industry.
Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices, with experience in conducting safety audits and training.
Proven track record of successfully managing events from conception to execution, with excellent organizational skills.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Proficiency in project management software and tools, with a strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Robust analytical skills, with the ability to assess operational performance and identify areas for improvement.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event schedules.
Nice to have Certification in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
Experience in a leadership role within a similar organization or industry.
Familiarity with budgeting and financial management in an operational context.
Knowledge of sustainability practices and initiatives related to site operations and event management.
Previous experience working with community engagement initiatives or public relations.
Skills & tools Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management software (e.g., Asana, Trello).
Familiarity with safety management systems and incident reporting tools.
Strong customer service orientation and ability to handle inquiries professionally.
Practical notes This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario, and may require occasional travel for events or meetings.
The salary for this role will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
