Defence Construction Canada (DCC) invites you to consider joining our Halifax team!
DCC is a dynamic and fast-paced Crown corporation whose clients include the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with design and construction expertise to lead a Halifax-based DCC team.
The Team Leader, Construction Services, ensures the quality-of-service delivery within the service line. The incumbent provides leadership in the management of architectural and engineering consultant contracts, ensuring compliance with service line policies, procedures, and manages contract-related risks. The incumbent leads a team of professionals, manages the human resources responsibilities for the team and fosters solid relationships with Client-Partners and consultants. The incumbent develops creative solutions and ensures the team is focused on collaboration, and quality and timeliness of deliverables.
KEY AND PERIODIC ACTIVITIES
The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative but not all-inclusive:
Primary
Oversee a team managing construction, professional services and service contracts to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, and DCC contract management policies and processes
Solve complex problems within delegated authority
Facilitate contract-related coordination and communications between stakeholders (e.g. contractors, consultants, Client-Partners)
Promote and manage business development opportunities
Develop and maintain effective relationships within DCC, and with industry, the
Client Partners and/or stakeholders
Ensure quality standards are met, in line with corporate and Client-Partner expectations
Manage risk
Perform human resources functions (e.g. coach, supervise, mentor, plan and allocate resources, and manage performance)
Other
Other duties as assigned
SKILLS
General and Specific Knowledge
Best practices, methods, trends and legislation in construction,
architecture and engineering
Best practices and trends in financial management and human resources management
Procurement mechanisms
Project, contract and risk management principles
Health and safety management
Formal Education and/or Certification(s) and Experience
Minimum: college diploma in engineering, architecture or related field with five years' relevant experience, or the equivalent
Abilities
Use applicable computer software and operating systems
Apply project, contract and risk management techniques
Demonstrate leadership and human resources management skills
DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP
Lead and manage direct reports
Provide functional direction and advice to other employees and to Client-Partners
WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical office environment with occasional travel
Some work may be located on construction sites; incumbent may occasionally be required to wear basic safety equipment
