About the role FanDuel is seeking a highly experienced Senior Manager for Strategy and Governance with a specialized focus on anti-money laundering (AML) and sanctions compliance to join our Financial Crimes Compliance (FCC) Team. This critical role involves overseeing the governance framework, strategic planning, and operational management of the AML program within the Canadian market. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of AML controls. The position requires close collaboration with senior management, internal teams, and external regulators to ensure that the organization adheres to all applicable AML and sanctions laws and regulations. What you'll do Develop, review, and update AML policies, procedures, and controls tailored specifically to the regulated igaming industry, ensuring they meet current regulatory standards and best practices.
Lead and coordinate internal and external audits, risk assessments, and program reviews, ensuring that all issues identified are properly tracked, prioritized, and resolved in a timely manner.
Collaborate with various internal departments, including legal, compliance, operations, and technology teams, to compile and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and key risk indicators (KRIs), and present these findings to senior management and regulators as required.
Partner with senior leadership to design, implement, and continuously improve the AML and sanctions compliance program, aligning it with evolving regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Utilize governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) tools to support the management and monitoring of the AML program, ensuring data integrity and effective reporting.
Assess training needs across the organization related to AML and sanctions, and contribute to the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of training materials for staff in Canada.
Provide regular updates to senior management on AML performance metrics, regulatory changes, ongoing risk assessments, and program enhancements to support strategic decision-making.
Ensure ongoing compliance with FINTRAC regulations and other relevant legal and regulatory requirements in Canada, including maintaining proper documentation and reporting procedures.
Support the development of strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening AML controls, reducing compliance risks, and fostering a culture of compliance across the organization.
Monitor industry trends, emerging threats, and regulatory developments related to AML and sanctions to proactively adapt policies and procedures.
Act as a subject matter expert on AML and sanctions compliance, providing guidance and support to operational teams and ensuring best practices are followed.
Assist in the preparation of reports, documentation, and submissions required for regulatory audits and examinations by authorities such as FINTRAC.
Foster a culture of compliance awareness and accountability within the organization through ongoing communication, training, and leadership.
Requirements Between 6 and 7 years of compliance experience within a highly regulated financial institution, gaming company, or similar environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior management role.
Strong understanding of Canadian AML regulations, particularly FINTRAC requirements, and experience applying these in a regulated environment.
Proven ability to develop, document, and implement AML policies, procedures, and controls that meet regulatory standards.
Experience conducting and managing audits, risk assessments, and program reviews, with a track record of resolving issues effectively.
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, generate reports, and present findings clearly to senior management and regulators.
Strong organizational skills, with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Proficiency in using governance, risk, and compliance tools to support AML program management and reporting.
Effective written and verbal communication skills,
capable of articulating complex compliance concepts to diverse audiences.
Certification as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) is preferred, but not mandatory.
Ability to work independently with initiative, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to compliance challenges.
Knowledge of the gaming industry or igaming sector is advantageous but not required.
Nice to have Experience working within the gaming or igaming industry, especially in a compliance or regulatory capacity.
Familiarity with GRC software and other compliance management tools.
Knowledge of financial crime investigations and related law enforcement procedures.
Experience in developing and delivering compliance training programs.
Understanding of international AML standards and best practices beyond Canadian regulations.
Skills & tools Proficiency in governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) software platforms.
Robust documentation, reporting, and analytical skills.
Ability to leverage compliance tools for effective monitoring and reporting.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with internal teams and regulators.
Competence in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for reporting and presentation purposes.
Practical notes The salary range for this role is CAD 117,000 to CAD 146,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and market factors.
The position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including extended medical, vision, and dental coverage, life and disability insurance, and retirement plans with employer contributions.
Employees are entitled to 12 holidays plus two floating holidays, along with paid sick leave in accordance with Canadian employment laws.
This is an on-site role based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and requires physical presence at the office.
