About the role As the Section Manager for Design Engineering at Laurentisenergy, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing a team of design engineers focused on delivering innovative solutions in the energy sector. What you'll do Lead and mentor a team of design engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Oversee the design and development of engineering projects, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, procurement, and construction, to ensure seamless project execution.
Develop and implement design methodologies and best practices to enhance efficiency and quality in engineering outputs.
Review and approve engineering designs, calculations, and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
Manage project timelines and budgets, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to meet project goals.
Conduct regular performance evaluations of team members and provide constructive feedback to promote professional growth.
Stay updated on industry trends, technologies,
and regulatory changes to ensure that the engineering team remains at the forefront of design innovation.
Facilitate communication with clients and stakeholders to understand their needs and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
Prepare and present technical reports and project updates to senior management and clients, demonstrating project progress and outcomes.
Identify and mitigate risks associated with engineering projects, ensuring that potential issues are addressed proactively.
Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new engineering staff, ensuring that the team is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering.
A minimum of 7 years of experience in design engineering, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role.
Proven experience in the energy sector, with a strong understanding of relevant regulations and standards.
Excellent project management skills, with a track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Proficiency in design software and tools relevant to the engineering field (e.g.,
AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
Familiarity with project management software and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) is preferred but not mandatory.
Nice to have Experience in renewable energy projects or sustainable design practices.
Knowledge of advanced engineering technologies, such as 3D modeling and simulation software.
Previous experience working in a consulting setting.
Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
Strong network within the energy sector and related industries.
Skills & tools Proficient in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks).
Familiar with project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Trello, Asana).
Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices, particularly in the energy sector.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective reporting and presentations.
Ability to lead and motivate teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Practical notes This position is based in Oshawa, Ontario, and may require occasional travel to project sites or client meetings.
