About the role As a Software Engineer I at Toast, you will play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge solutions tailored for the Canadian and emerging markets. What you'll do Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications for new features and enhancements.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable software solutions that meet the needs of our customers in Canada and emerging markets.
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code while adhering to best practices in software development.
Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and share knowledge with team members.
Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and performance issues in a timely manner.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the development process by suggesting and implementing new tools and methodologies.
Assist in the integration of third-party services and APIs to enhance the functionality of the Toast platform.
Engage in agile development practices, attending daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives to foster team collaboration and productivity.
Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure that Toast remains at the forefront of innovation.
Mentor junior developers and interns, providing guidance and support as they grow in their roles.
Collaborate with product managers and designers to create user-friendly interfaces and improve overall user experience.




Participate in testing and quality assurance processes to ensure that all software releases meet high standards of reliability and performance.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
At least 1-2 years of experience in software development, preferably in a full-stack capacity.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, along with frameworks like React or Angular.
Familiarity with database technologies, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
Understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
A passion for technology and a desire to learn and grow within the industry.
Nice to have Experience in the restaurant or hospitality industry, providing insights into customer needs and challenges.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
Exposure to Agile methodologies and tools like Jira or Trello.
Skills & tools Proficient in programming languages: Java, Python, JavaScript
