About the role AI Engineer at Guidepoint. Join Guidepoint's AI team in Toronto to help build the foundation of our future data products and research platforms. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining advanced Generative AI systems and analytics tools that will significantly enhance our research capabilities. What you'll do Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs that support Generative AI features, including complex systems and pipelines essential for our research platforms.
Oversee the entire lifecycle of AI applications, from initial design and development to deployment, monitoring, and continuous optimization, utilizing cloud platforms such as Databricks and Azure Kubernetes Service.
Enhance retrieval and generation processes by applying optimization techniques, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning methods to improve AI model performance.
Develop and implement systems that integrate large language models (LLMs) with internal and external data sources, enabling advanced research tools and analytics.
Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and other stakeholders to define technical requirements and translate them into scalable AI solutions.
Contribute to the development and refinement of LLMOps best practices, including automated evaluation, monitoring, and management of AI models in production environments.
Apply advanced prompt engineering techniques to improve the safety, accuracy, and efficiency of AI outputs.
Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.
Work on integrating AI solutions with existing data infrastructure and tools, ensuring seamless operation and data flow.
Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in Generative AI, large language models, and related technologies to ensure Guidepoint remains at the forefront of AI innovation.
Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and documentation efforts to maintain high-quality standards across projects.




Engage with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions that drive value.
Support the deployment of AI models in production environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and compliance with company policies.
Assist in developing training materials and documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team and organization.
Contribute to research and development initiatives aimed at exploring recent AI techniques and methodologies relevant to Guidepoint's strategic goals.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with at least 6 years of professional experience, or a Master's degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience in backend software engineering and Generative AI.
Proven expertise in Python programming, with experience in backend frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask, and asynchronous programming techniques.
Strong understanding of RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and CI/CD pipelines to support scalable AI applications.
Hands-on experience working with cloud platforms, preferably Azure, including deploying and managing AI solutions.
Proficiency with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes, including experience with Helm.
At least 2 years of experience working with large language models (LLMs), including retrieval-augmented generation, prompt engineering, and related techniques.
Knowledge of AI system design, evaluation, and management, with experience using tools such as MLflow.
Familiarity with large-scale data processing platforms such as Databricks or Apache Spark.
Experience with libraries and frameworks like LangChain for building AI applications.
Demonstrated leadership skills, including mentoring junior team members and collaborating across teams.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and continuously learn new skills relevant to AI development.




Nice to have Experience working with vector databases such as Pinecone or Elasticsearch, which can enhance retrieval capabilities for AI applications.
Familiarity with additional cloud services and AI tools, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini.
Knowledge of ITAR compliance and handling sensitive data in AI applications.
Experience with AI model evaluation and benchmarking, including using tools like LLM Judges.
Background in responsible AI practices, including model safety, bias mitigation, and ethical considerations.

Practical notes Salary range: $135,000 - $210,000 CAD, plus an annual discretionary bonus based on performance.
