Product Counsel at mirage. About the role Mirage is on the lookout for a skilled legal professional to collaborate closely with our product, engineering, and research teams as we develop our innovative AI-driven video platform. In this role, you will navigate the intricate landscape of generative media, intellectual property rights, and platform policies, all while shaping our overarching legal operations across the organization.

Engagement: Full-Time
Compensation: $190,000 - $280,000 plus equity
Team: Operations
What you'll do Serve as the main legal advisor for product and engineering teams, evaluating new features and product launches to ensure compliance with legal standards.
Offer expert advice on legal issues surrounding generative AI, addressing concerns such as copyright, right of publicity, content provenance, and moderation practices.
Manage and update consumer‑facing legal documents, including privacy policies, Terms of Service, and compliance with app store regulations.
Assist marketing and growth teams with legal considerations related to promotions, endorsements, and product claims to ensure transparency and compliance.
Develop streamlined internal legal processes and escalation procedures that facilitate swift product development cycles.
Supervise general corporate, commercial, and employment legal matters, collaborating with external counsel and company leadership as needed.
Conduct legal research and stay updated on emerging trends in technology law, particularly as they pertain to AI and digital media.




Provide training and guidance to internal teams on legal best practices and compliance issues to foster a culture of legal awareness.
Participate in cross‑functional meetings to align legal strategies with business objectives and product roadmaps.
Review and negotiate contracts with vendors, partners, and other third parties to protect the company's interests.
Engage with regulatory bodies and industry groups to advocate for policies that support innovation while ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
Requirements At least 5 years of legal experience, with a strong focus on product counsel within a consumer technology environment.
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and an active bar membership in good standing, with the ability to practice in‑house in New York.
In‑depth knowledge of consumer software legal issues, including intellectual property, user‑generated content (UGC), consumer protection, and privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA, and COPPA.
Proven ability to deliver clear, actionable legal advice that supports business objectives, rather than relying on lengthy legal documents.
Strong capacity to operate independently as the sole legal representative within the organization,



demonstrating initiative and self‑direction.
Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex legal concepts into understandable terms for non‑legal stakeholders.
Nice to have Experience working with generative AI or synthetic media technologies, providing insights into the unique legal challenges they present.
Familiarity with managing legal budgets and relationships with outside counsel to optimize legal expenditures.
Background as an early‑stage legal hire in a startup environment, demonstrating adaptability and resourcefulness in a fast‑paced setting.
Skills & tools Expertise in legal strategy pertaining to consumer software and technology.
Strong understanding of intellectual property and copyright law as it relates to digital media.
Knowledge of data privacy regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and COPPA, and their implications for product development.
Familiarity with regulatory compliance issues specific to generative AI technologies.
