What you'll do Conduct thorough inspections of municipal infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and public buildings, to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Review and assess technical plans and specifications submitted by contractors and developers to ensure they meet city requirements.
Prepare detailed inspection reports, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions when necessary.
Collaborate with engineering teams to address any technical issues that arise during construction or maintenance projects.
Monitor ongoing construction projects to ensure adherence to approved plans and specifications, providing guidance to contractors as needed.
Engage with the public and stakeholders to explain inspection processes and address any concerns related to technical compliance.
Stay updated on changes to relevant codes, standards, and regulations,
ensuring that all inspections are conducted in accordance with the latest requirements.
Participate in training and career development opportunities to enhance technical knowledge and inspection skills.
Assist in the development and implementation of inspection policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Coordinate with other city departments and agencies to facilitate seamless communication and collaboration on technical matters.
Provide input into budget planning and resource allocation for inspection-related activities.
Contribute to special projects and initiatives aimed at improving the city's infrastructure and service delivery.
Requirements A diploma or degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in technical inspection, construction, or a related area.
Strong knowledge of municipal infrastructure standards, building codes, and safety regulations.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in using inspection software and tools,
as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for site inspections.
Certification as a Technical Inspector or similar designation is an asset.
Nice to have Experience working in a municipal government setting.
Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.
Previous experience with public engagement and community outreach initiatives.
