About the role At hiive, we have created a dynamic secondary market platform that facilitates the buying and selling of pre-IPO shares from venture-backed companies. We are on the lookout for an Intermediate Software Engineer to enhance our full-stack application and contribute to the scaling of our market operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where innovation and collaboration are at the forefront.

Engagement: Full-time, Hybrid
Compensation: CA$120K - CA$150K plus equity
Team: Engineering
What you'll do Design, develop, and deploy new features across our full-stack application utilizing React and TypeScript to enhance user experience.
Acquire knowledge in Elixir and Phoenix for backend development, with mentorship from more experienced team members.
Work closely with the founders and product team to clarify feature requirements and determine project scope.
Convert Figma design prototypes into interactive and responsive user interfaces that meet our quality standards.
Refactor and improve existing codebases while ensuring comprehensive automated testing for backend services.
Stay adaptable to shifting priorities in a rapidly evolving, high-growth setting, demonstrating flexibility in your work approach.
Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge with team members.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on product goals and timelines.




Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner to maintain optimal application performance.
Document processes and code to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.
Engage in continuous learning and professional development to keep up with industry trends and technologies.
Contribute to a positive team culture by participating in team-building activities and sharing insights.
Requirements Proven experience in building frontend applications using React and TypeScript, with a solid portfolio of past projects.
Familiarity with backend development, specifically in creating API services using Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
A solid dedication to writing automated tests for backend systems to ensure reliability and maintainability.
Experience collaborating with product designers to refine UI/UX based on user feedback and testing.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically about software design and architecture.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively share ideas and collaborate with team members.
Nice to have Experience with GraphQL for API development, enhancing data retrieval and manipulation capabilities.




Understanding of software architecture principles and data modeling techniques for building scalable systems.
Familiarity with Elixir or other functional programming languages, contributing to diverse coding practices.
Previous experience working alongside product managers to prioritize tasks and define feature scopes.
Knowledge of agile methodologies and experience working in an agile development environment.
Skills & tools Proficient in React, TypeScript, Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Elixir, Phoenix, GraphQL, and Figma.
Familiarity with version control systems such as Git for collaborative development.
Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools to ensure code quality.
Understanding of cloud services and deployment practices to support application scalability.
